possible 4th torn ACL
« on: April 11, 2008, 10:26:10 PM »
Hi, this is my first post
just seeing if anyone else has had 4 ACL reconstruction operations!

1st reconstruction (nov 1999) - hamstring used for graft (tore by slipping & heal touching backside, 4 months post-op)

2nd reconstruction (nov 2001) - bone-patella-bone (tore by hyperextending leg with weight on it 2 years post-op)

3rd reconstruction (Jan 2005) - bone-patella-bone - (graft taken from good knee). Also had mackintosh loop operation undertaken to tighten up Medial ligaments (I think)

possibly tore ACL again on 5-4-08 - waiting for MRI scan to confirm, but i'm experiencing same familiar pain i suffered pre-op previously!!

has this happened to anyone else - what can be used for graft??

really p!ssed off that i may have to undergo more surgery!!!

Hi,
Sorry I've got no advice or experience of what you've gone through.
You've definitly been through it over the past several years and I can understand the frustration. I get wound up often over my problems.
Mate, I can't help with advice for you injuries, but hey sound off here with your frustrations there are plenty of people who'll sympathise with you.
I find it helps.

Sean.

There are several of us here with multiple ACL reconsructions - I have had 4 - 3 on one knee and 1 on the other.

Maybe you should ask if there is a reason for the multiple failures? For example, some drugs can cause side effects that impinge on the integrity of ligament tissue.

Cheers Guys
I'm not on any medication, so no chance of it affecting my ligaments in that way.

The possibility of my first two reconstructions failing could of been dramaticaly reduced if the 1st surgeon had seen that i had a deficiency in top section of my fibula (which my 2nd surgeon noticed & corrected 3 months before I had my 3rd reconstruction).

just wait for that MRI & see I suppose - I've never had an MRI before (my knees have had metal in previously, which was removed at last op - plastic screws now used instead) what am i likely to see?? will it tell me whats going on in my knee??
cheers
