Calf and foot swelling after High Tibial osteotomy
« on: March 05, 2008, 03:13:50 PM »
Hi,

I had HTO and cartiledge transfer on January 30th of this year.  I've started rehab, (non weight bearing).  Leg is almost straight.  Working on bending more.  Still on crutches.

I'm still getting calf and foot swelling.  It only swells if I'm sitting at my desk or in a chair for long periods of time.

Is this normal a month after surgery?

Jim

Jim The swelling is normal when youre keeping your leg still. it will subside when you get that leg moving. Its a buildup of fluid, it can help to move your foot up and down at the ankle, to encourage vein-pump.(if you can)
Hope all goes well fo you Beda

Thanks for the response.  I do the heel pumps.  They seem to help a bit.
