Hi Everyone-

I really need advice about my knee problem.

If I walk or run the wrong way, either my right or left knee gives out and I fall to the ground.

This even happens if I get out of a car or twist slightly in my desk chair.

I can't predict when it will happen but always end up on the ground with intense pain.

I resolve this by straightening my leg and my knee pops back into place. I can hear and feel something moving back and the sharp pain goes away. Afterwards, I walk with a limp with slight pain but in a few minutes my knee returns to normal.

I'm 27 years but this all started when I was 20 years old playing backyard football and someone hit me backwards. I felt something in my left knee give out and I couldn't walk for weeks. I got an x-ray and nothing was broken. Since then my knee would give out and I would have to pop it back into place. 3 or 4 years later I injured my other knee by twisting my body the wrong way. So I got two knees that give out without notice. I have also notice that days before it rains, my knees hurt. I can feel a tiny inner pain/burning in my knees. Someone told me it has to do something with atmospheric pressure.

Should I see a knee specialist and get an MRI?

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I would have seen one a long time ago.   Anytime you fall down like that you risk hurting something else.

wow notwla - i would have seen a specialist many years ago too. impossible to make a diagnosis on the internet but safe to say that your knees should NOT be behaving like that!! Sounds like your original injury was never dealt with properly.
maybe a silly question but do you do any sports, gym etc or do you have a sedentary lifestyle? It sounds like your muscles are not doing their job at all - perhaps from an underlying problem or perhaps from being switched off so often in the past 7 years that they may have wasted away a lot.

the popping sounds like your subluxing.

please see a specialist - and have him check out both of those knees.

then come back and tell us what he said.

I wish I had a nickel for every time someone says, "I had an x-ray and everything was okay". It amazes me the number of doctors that will tell people they're okay after only having an x-ray. As the others have said, you should have seen a doctor years ago. You've likely done a lot more damage since the initial incident. This is only a mysterious problem because you haven't had it checked out thoroughly.
