Lyrica II
« on: January 23, 2008, 10:02:06 PM »
Missy,

looking at your list, it could be the fibro.  Me and my rheumy chased RA for most of last year and my knee pain got lost in all the other joint pain.  Everything we did pointed to a maybe.  Fibro can cause joint pain as well.

Actually, it wasn't until I went on Lyrica and all the other joint pain went away, except for my knees, that we were able to discover the problems I'm currently having.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ahhhh yes, Lyrica is a wonder drug, is it not? i have been on it for a while and would not go off of it for anything.
i dont think that this pain is the fibro because i have had this pain since the accident and that was a few years before the fibro. i suspect possibly nerve damage.

good luck

How do those of you taking lyrica deal with the side effects?  I agree it is a wonder drug and helps with the pain a ton but I am having a terrible time with side effects.  Do they get better with time if you just tough it out???

I had to reduce my dosage some, the only bad side effect I had was the swelling.

what kind of side effects are you having?

it has made me gain about 15 lbs but my doctor and his nurse (who is on it too) said that the weight will fall off after you have been on it long enough.

i dont think that i have any other side effects from it.

what dose are you on? how long have you been on  it?

sorry we kinda hijacked your thread kitten.

I'm down to 100mg a day, but will probably end up going off of it due to cognitive side effects, making too many mistakes at work.

never gained any weight amazingly, and went on it shortly after it was approved.

so are you saying that it clouds your mind or confuses you? forgetfulness? what kind of cognative problems?

i am up to 150mg twice a day. my dr had to up my dose because it had stopped working for me. i have problems with my memory and such but most of mine is from the fibro, i had it before the lyrica.
i can put up wiht the side effects if it stops some of the pain.

i believe i am on a low dose and suffer from bad headache and nausea.  i also have a terrible time concentrating and making sense of my thoughts.  it does kill the awful night pain and i am able to sleep much longer than before.   i had been sleeping at most five hours a night for the last year.  i can sleep almost 7 hours when i take it but the headache the next morning is awful.  i was setting my alarm an hour before i had to get up so i could take excederin and lay back down until the headache subsuded enough for me to start moving.  i wonder if there is anything else out there that helps with pain and allows you to sleep without the side effects.  i must be focused at work and literally can't think clearly when i am taking the lyrica.  i was supposed to take it 2x a day but never did.  i took one at bedtime and would get very dizzy and sleepy.
I am sorry to have jacked into your thread was just so excited to hear someone else say they took the lyrica.  i  hadn't found anyone else who was on it.  i'm not even sure why my os put me on it other than i told her the pain was really affecting my sleeping.

How about this instead- I'll start a new thread called Lyrica and we can continue on there.  Maybe we can get some of the earlier posts moved

In the general knee questions, same as this thread, seemed the safest place.

hey guys i started a thread under the general section about lyrica.  as for your question my os put me on it for severe bone and nerve pain.  i do not have fibromyalgia (sp????).  i am in need ot a kneecap replacement amongst other things and my knee is very hypersensitive.  i explained the pain was waking me up at night even with pain meds or a otc sleeping aid and she wanted me to try the lyrica.

I was asked to split a thread and add this bit to the Lyrica thread. Sorry, I can only split a thread, not join two together - so now you have two Lyrica threads .....

I resurrected this thread because we were talking about weight gain and LYRICA. I finally did go off it and within 7 weeks I lost ( w/o doing anything extra) 12 of the 30 lbs it put on me. Just to let ppl know that for some it does go away.     TIBBAR
