which orthopaedic surgeon for complicated knee issues
« on: December 30, 2007, 07:06:42 PM »
I would like to ask my fellow sufferers if they have any recommendations for a "top" Orthopaedic surgeon in USA or better still Europe. I have multiple probs with my knee with recurrent effusions chronic pain which maybe due early OA, mild arthrofibrosis, previous meniscus resection, patellofemoral joint arthritis etc

Your time would be very much appreciated in replying as I do not want to end up blindly in yet another surgeons office chair and leave without answers!

Hi there,

I don't know of any good surgeons in Europe but I do know of a great sports medicine clinic in London called Pure Sports Medicine. I was a patient there for a couple of years when I lived in London. They do a lot of work with some elite sports clubs and know they have sent some of their players to top surgeons in Europe.

It may be worth a visit to them in London. Their number is 0870 2000 878 and website is www.puresportsmed.com I would suggest seeing one of their sports doctors first.

I hope this helps. :D

There's a knee clinic in Munich that is internationally recognised and also listed here on this site as being worth a look. It's called the Alpha Klinik and the doctor in charge is called Jürgen Tofts. There is a link here on this site under the listings for Knee Clinics button top right (ie above this page in the Knee Geeks banner). They have a huge international patient base but it is private insurance only, otherwise I would have used them for my knee problems.

As you do not state what the complicated knee problems are it is difficult for anyone to recommend any one. There are many fantastic surgeons out there, but the knee is complicated and the best ones specialise in particular aspects. Perhaps people would be able to pass on recommendations for specific doctors if they know what area is need (TKR, ACI, ACL reconstruction etc,) If you are suffering post operative complications such as arthrofibrosis, infections or whatever.
