Anyone had a Trochlearplasty ?
« on: December 28, 2007, 11:08:52 AM »
Hello,

I am possibly looking at having a trochlearplasty in the new year.

Has anyone had one before ? If so, what is the recovery like and the success rate ?

Love to hear about your experiences. ;)

Has your doctor recommended the Arthrosurface Hemi-Cap system to you. My trochlear groove had a lesion of 28mm and my knee cap had a lesion of 25mm. The two lesions would hit at about 118 degrees of flex to about 135. My were caused by an accident that dislocated my knee in both directions. The cartilage around the lesions was in perfect shape. Here were the Arthrosurface comes in it only replaces the damage cartilage. This procedure is a great option for people over 38 and under 58. Any younger and they would rather go with a natural graph older they would just replace your knee. I am 1 month post-op I have reached full flex and I am working on strength now. I can walk with out any help going up and down stairs with little to no trouble. If I had a desk job I would already be back to work. There are only a handful of doctors that do the arthrosurface system I highly recommend you track one down and talk to them. You can grab their info at arthrosurface.com

Hi Rotten,

Thanks for the info.

I probably wouldn't be a candidate for it as I'm in my early 30's and I don't think my cartilage is too bad.

My main problem is that my kneecap comes out medially and has also come out laterally in the past. So, would probably do a trochlearplasty to see if the knee cap would sit in a better position. Mine is also attributed to a car accident I had in August last year.

Good luck with your recovery !! :D
