The most stupid question
« on: October 13, 2007, 03:58:30 AM »
I'm sure people have some good examples:

One stupid question I asked, when my son phoned up to say that he had wrecked his car by pulling out of a side road in front of a car on the main road. The first thing I thought to say was 'didn't you see him?' The answer of course was well do you think I would of pulled out if I'd seen the car coming!!!!!!!!

One I'm sure a lot of have been asked, when you're struggling to stand up or walk        'Ohh does that hurt?'

Any more

Oh thanks for the laughs tonight!  I really needed them!  I'm sure my boys could rattle off stupid questions I ask them (I know it was stupid when they give eachother "the look" and start to giggle) but none come to mind tonight.

The most annoying question from my husband is when I'm struggling to get up off the couch (right after he sat down and is all comfortable) and he asks if I need help.  He knows how much I hate to ask for help and knows I'll say no.  I just wish for once he wouldn't ask and just help instead.

why is that so hard for them!!  of course you need help!  and don't even do the sigh and eye roll when you, god forbid, have to get off your spot on the couch to help out for a second.  ugh.  so irritating.

The family 'can I help' questions are always hard.

My favourite stupid question is when the commentator goes up to a sports person, when they've jsut been knocked out of a competition, you are just waiting for that 'How do you feel right now?' to be asked. I'm suprised they don't get more rude answers

Struggling into the hospital and I met someone I used to work with. she looked me up and down and then asked:

" Have you hurt your leg then?"

I was standing there with my NWB leg, wobbling on the snow and ice with my crutches, praying I'd make into my appointment in the hospital for an MRI without slipping and messing up the other leg!

I felt like answering Noooooo I'm just doing this for research on balancing acts!

I was asked the dumbest question just yesterday, My Big Dave took me to my pain management doctor and as we walked into the front office, there was a man sitting beside the door, I hobbled over to the counter and got the paperwork to fill out and set down next to him. He looked me up and down and then he let his eyes land on the incision on my knee. " Is that a surgery scar?"  Before I could even pop off, Dave looked over at him and said seriously" Naw, that's where " I " had to remove a splinter from her knee." The dufus believed him.  GEEZ!! ;D ;D

Love it, we should get a whole list of things to tell people when they ask about scars, how about 'that's where they took the alien out'

I had identical twin friends at uni and the number of people who would ask one of them when their birthday was, and then look at the other twin and ask "and when's yours?" Gee. I wonder.

the most stupid questions for me is, when you are at the dentist they have their hand and insruments in your mouth and ask if your ok. (its like you have your hands in my mouth) how can i answer you.??
and on the same wave length as some of the others, when people see you and they say are you still on crutches then?

The pity of such questions is they dumb klutzes that ask them do not know what a rhetorical question is!

Today I'm buying new ski pants - shop assistant asks me in all seriousness "Are you going skiing then?" - no the white stuff lying half a metre deep outside the door is just for show and is really just soap suds!

I think it's funny when you go to the doctors and they ask you if anything is wrong. Now, if nothing was wrong, I wouldn't be there! Lol.

I think one of the silliest things I've said recently had to be "Oh! So we were supposed to do the homework?!" And I was being serious. I didn't realise it was homework *blushes*

I like this thread a lot - good for a laugh and for a shake of the head.

I love it when I run into my firefighters (not back at work yet as a paramedic) or someone else and they say "aren't you over this knee stuff yet???"  Well yes, I was over it before it started you jerk.  Now if I could get my knee to agree I could have my life back.  I do think being injured does make most us a little more aware of how some questions sound.

Well keep it going I'm sure there will be more to add.

This thread is so fun!

I love when someone calls your home telephone, and then asks where are you?  Where do you think, dummy, you just called my landline!  This question might be okay if it was asked when they called my cellphone.  Duh! :-)

Another favorite of mine is when someone stupidly asks me in the winter,"is it cold enough for you?"  No, I like to be cold.  In fact, I am not happy unless it is in the negative numbers.  Jeez.  Who likes to freeze?  If it could be warmer and snowy, I don't think skiers would complain too much.  Cold weather stinks.  Lovely question.

My Osteopath said a silly question to me, why cant you walk properly. I fell on my right knee 8 weeks ago and cant walk as well since and cant run anymore. She had the cheek to tell me I walking wrong and should use my heal then toe when walking, I was walking and running fine till I tripped over my shoelace onto pavement.

I was going into work, standing in front of the doors, cane in one hand, the other held a big shopping bag filled with items for the Christmas potluck - up walks the building security guard (who sees me everyday btw) instead of helping with the door he says "where's your security badge?"

Mine came from my GP when I went to get 22 staples out of my knee.

Doctore said:

Hi, haven't done this in a while and the last time was a nightmare, the patient fainted, haven't scared you have I?

One I'm sure we've all had:

Scream in pain.....someone yells from another room....."are you alright?"  Seriously, what do they think?

Sobbing in total misery that you're the only one that's turned up to your Pity-party and that life is really sucking big time, knee sucks, bed sucks, getting a drink with crutches sucks, going to te toilet sucks, early morning tv sucks, sleeping sucks, being awke sucks, everything sucks.
Someone comes across you in your big puddle of tears and runny nose and say either:

Why are you crying?

or

Do you need a tissue?

My favourite was asked in all innocence by one of my kids. They were both in the bath at my Mum's and she told them they had to get out. My son resisted so Mum told him he'd better get out or he'd go all wrinkly. He turned to her and asked, "Is that what happened to you, Granny?"!!!! Mum said she had visions of immersing herself in a bath full of water every night for a couple of hours to maintain her wrinkled complexion!! As if!! Not quite a stupid question, but good for a laugh.

Kathy

BTW My GP always asks "So what can I do for you today?". I think he's worked out that "How are you today?" just doesn't cut it!

Hiya

My fave was last week. Whilst my Hubby was at work he picks up a ringing phone. The bloke on the other end asks:
"Is Dave there?"
Hubby says "No, he's at the Dentist."
Bloke says "whats he doing there?"
Hubby says " ::) probably having his teeth done!"

cue silence and phone clicks off.

I'm sure most here have had something similar to this.  Someone asks what I did to my knee and I tell them that I broke the top of my tibia into a million pieces (slight exaggeration).  They ask, "Did it hurt?"
