DONATIONS PLEASE
« on: October 06, 2007, 10:12:06 PM »
Come on Folks - there are many of us here and we enjoy a great deal of support in many different ways

I notice that several SuperKneeGeeks are not donors. We give out a lot of advice and receive loads of spiritual and solid help here and we do not have to pay a penny for it apart from our connection fees. If we want to keep this web site going and free from "Sponsored Advertising" ( in my list this is the only site worth it's weight that does not have Pop-ups or other annoyances.

I'm addicted to this site - it has helped me answer questions and also ask the right ones. I have made friends here that I value highly for their support and help.

We have currently over 19,000 members - if only half of those are still active and each donated 5 Euros/dollars/Pounds or whatever each the site would be able to continue as it is.

Come on Folks give what you can please

Sue, I have been here from the beginning almost..and to state because I am a Superkneegeek that is should donate money..that is to go to far.
I have under these years I have been here given advice and comments out from my experiences to other people for free, is that not donating enough ??????

I agree with Nettan. Those remarks are inappropriate. Who are you to determine who should be "giving" and what is considered adequate giving? You don't know other people's circumstances. Make decisions for yourself, and let other's make their own choices.

Sue,

I also agree with Nettan and Liz.  If you choose to donate..........good for you.  Donating is voluntary and it is inappropriate for you to try to coerce others to give via guilt or any other reason.  I have donated in the past, but will not be donating this year as I feel that the site has strayed from its original intent.  And posting girl's names, boy's names, etc......in moving fonts that are impossible to read, was not what the site was designed for.  I am glad that there are some of you that have found a way to pass your time, but I get a bit tired of wading through pages of games posts while trying to find the posts that are actually looking for or giving serious advice.

Nettan I didn't name anyone. This post has been sitting on my computer for a long time today while I wondered where to post it and how phrase it. I am also a long term member, and a SuperKneeGeek, having registered under this name in early in 2003. I only donated for the first time this year when I became aware of the problems and cost of keeping it all going.

I received a lot of specialist help today from the Knee Guru regarding articles that she looked up for me. This is just one of the many things that are done for us for free. I just feel we should maybe put something back in in order to ensure that others are able to benefit from the site as well . The only mention of donations on the site is the tiny little notice in the top right hand corner of the page (under News), which most people probably never see or look at. The button on the top line is also not that clear. In a way of thanking the Knee Guru for her fantastic help today I just felt it was time to maybe make more people aware of the need for donations.

There are many of us here who have SKG status, it is not an elite group, more a reflection of our usage. You only need to post something like 500 posts to reach this level.

Sorry you took this personally but it is meant globally.  I needed to post it or lose my thoughts before I log off for the evening as there is no facility for saving drafts for posting later on.

Maybe next time write that more appropriate. I have been here since the old site were..around 10 years. I have never donated, but post when I have something to share and that is my way to help. I doubt that $5 will be more helpful then sharing my experiences.
Maybe I took this personally...but maybe you should change the thing about Superkneegeek..anyway has that nothing to do with if you give good  advice or not..you can have lots of posts but never share anything depending on where you are posting.
Not everyone has money over to give. Often kneedamages give us bad income.

Hi Sue,

Just so you know, there are people who support you, well a person anyway. I recently got the SuperKneeGeek status, and decided to make a donation. It wasn't a lot of money, but my personal decision was that I have both given and recieved on this site, and I would like it to be there for me into the futire. Looks like my knees and I are going to be arguing for a few years anyway.

Of course it's up to every individual wether they donate or not, but where's the hurt in bringing it into the light? If it reminds only one person who thought about it ti donate , then that's great, but I don't think that we should slam anyone for making a suggestion.

A suggestion would have been fine..........and the KNEEguru has already taken care of the suggestion and reminding people about donating with the red letters in the news box.  Trying to make people feel that they SHOULD donate is not necessary and even more unnecessary is trying to make people feel guilty about using the site and NOT donating.  As Nettan said, donating with helpful advice or lending a sympathetic ear is more important than the monetary donations...........that not everyone is capable of making.

I will have to go on the fence on this one. I value Sue's friendship greatly. She is one who offered that friendship when I really needed it and I had tried posting on a few strings and was overlooked(ingored). I am also with Nettan about how much these knee issues can cost. I had thought about donating for a while now,but there just seems to be more month than paycheck. I also would morn greatly the loss of this forum if it went under for lack of funds. I on more than several occassions have had to stop reading for not being able to see the words for all the tears.I just seem to get involved in some of these peoples lives even if I don't post to them. There are some beautiful, brave, loving and encouraging people here. I actually feel intimidated by their courage and knowledge. I have just begun to post on the games string.Silly names and moving fonts are a release for me from my health problems. To me they are as important as the other strings. Some people get joy out of posting pictures I can't but I can do fonts so that is my joy It is ok with me if others feel more comfortable in other places here, but please don't knock what makes me happy.  Some might feel more connected in the other strings. We really do need both money and posters to keep this thing alive. I don't think Sue had ment to make anyone feel bad. She like hundereds of others of us would be lost without this forum. I have posted on several strings and also have gotten much valued advice from others. Hopefully the words I have said to others have helped them also. I hate confrontation and could just have ignored this string, but I thought maybe I could say something to make us all aware of both sides. I truly hope we can put this behind us and move on without any hard or hurt feelings. We all belong to this forum family and I for one want to see it continue. Sue made us aware of her heart felt feelings about this forum and Nettan has made us aware of the fact that we need experienced posters also. So when I can give my help in words I will and when I am able to give money I will do that also.        LONG LIVE KNEEGEEKS!!!!!!!!                          CAROL

I sincerely think that Sue from Germany was not pointing fingers. I too appreciate the friendship and humour she has offered to me since I became a member. And speaking personally I don't mind the odd reminder of donations. That does not mean I have to feel guilty one way or the other. I would be much poorer from the informational point of view had I not found this website and have recommended it to others. Just for the record, I have gleaned enough in the way of support and information and can afford a donation. It was posted yesterday.

AS Denny said so well it's up to each individual to decide what a donation is, whether monetary or in the way of postings...

There, that's my 2 cents...

Hi Everyone
I think that we now have a full spectrum of opinions and it may be time to put a lock on this thread to cool things down a bit. I think all the arguments are valid here, as everyone has a different perspective and a different set of needs - which is probably why the website now has such a variety of options for interaction.

For those who donate - in cash or in time - and many have done both over the years - a warm thank you.
