Removing the metalwork

Here are my next questions for the group - possibly those living in the UK can answer my second question...

I'm told I have to have the metalwork taken out of my knee in December. How long should I expect to be off work after this? I'm thinking probably just a couple of weeks for wound healing.

I'm also worried that if I only go back to work in November and go off again in December my stat sick pay will be affected. I'll be going on to half pay at the end of November. I am really hoping to go back to work before this but wonder now whether I should stay off until it's all over and done. I don't want to though. I want to get back.

When i had surgery for TPF Feb 07 i was told if i did ever have the hardware out, i would be NWB and so off work for 6 wks. Not sure if it would be the same for you though but i think a couple of weeks might be a bit optimistic! All the best, Alison [ Bath, UK ]
