TENS Machine
« on: October 02, 2007, 05:42:07 PM »
Has anyone used a tens machine for controlling the pain in their knees? I've been offered one but was wondering if they are actually worth buying?

Are there possibilities for you to try one before buying ?
I have had TENS unit both working and not. For my nervpain that didn't help, but for my other pain have helped.
Surgery 6 times left knee torn meniscus, RSDS,chondromalacia, nervdamage cause constant nervpain, chronic inflamm.
Spinaldamage wheeler 100%.
Right knee damaged aug-06, use brace surgery 4/9-07.LCL tear.

Another lady in work has one and has offered her's to me. Just wondered what people's thoughts were on them. Wouldn't want to borrow hers if it wouldn't be of use. I'll borrow it and try it for now.

I have one for other things but it's not that useful. If you buy one you're going to have to keep buying new electrodes and that can get expensive. I wouldn't waste the money.

I got to try one in rehab recently and it felt fine on my knees. Now got an app in my health center to rent a unit for home use for 3 months. Then get to try it for other joints (like shoulders and hips) as well. If it works in the long run, it's time to think of of buying one. I guess TENS-units are like ultrasound, some people it helps, some not. Like for me ultrasound does nothing, but to some it gives terrible amounts of help. So I'd suggest that if possible, try it out first before buying. I shall try mine and then tell how it works in longer period of time.

Try borrowing it and test it out.  I used it in all my rehabs, but really can't say it's the TENS that does the trick. Now for my ankle i use it also, again, is it the TENS that lessens the pain? Or the massages before and afterwards, in combinations with the exercises? No idea...

I personally wouldn't buy it, but see if it helps and then consider it. Dunno what the electrodes cost, but i think it can be expensive in the long run. However if it helps maybe one doesn't care about the costs?

Good luck!

It does help me somewhat. I can use it all day and it feels better afterward. Insurance covered it, as it does the pads. If you can borrow it, go for it - then you will know if you want to purchase.

Good Luck!

Be careful with insurance. Not all of them cover the units even though the company I got mine from told me they did. I got screwed because of this. The company that made mine is sleezy as hell. They may pay for rental for a couple months but not buying the unit outright. And they won't pay for electrodes indefinitely.

Sorry all, need to write this in Finnish..!

"mukavaa" nähdä maanmies täällä, kärsimässä samankaltaisista vaivoista.. Olisi tosi kiva jakaa kokemuksia ihan suomeksi ja - suomessa.
Lasten takia mun nettiaika on hyvin hyvin rajoittunutta, haluaisitko vaikka lähettää meiliä mulle?
Niin, ja tausta mulla on; ACL katkesi lasketellessa 02/04, polven tähystykset Jorvissa joissa putsattiin arpikudosta ja tulehtunutta nivelkalvoa 05 ja 06, kolmas jossa lisäksi narkoosimanipulaatio heinäkuussa 07, jalan taivutus yhä n. 90-100. Artrofibroosi diagnoosina 06/07.

She was just saying in finnish how nice it is to see someone from our country here (it's rare to meet other Finns here!) and telling a bit about herself. And I answered to her message telling that it is nice to meet her too. Stuff like that  :)
