My problems started my freshman year of high school when I had to run stadiums for soccer.  I can thank my mom for the messed up tendons.

My knee problems don't seem as bad as other peoples' - chrondomalacia which reached its zenith last year and has decreased slightly since then, no surgery, hardly any interest by doctors in fact - I've seen two and they've both fostered the 'it'll get better on its own' approach, and to an extent that's true, except that a repetitive action over the last couple of weeks at work has made it flare up again, so much so that I can't ride my bike at all at the moment (I usually manage by taking painkillers before a ride - it doesn't deaden all pain but usually makes it bearable).

I've had the pain since my early teens, it came on slowly and I ignored it for a while because I was overweight and fairly unfit and thought it was just stiffness from underuse. It got worse and worse until last year. Hopefully I'm on the mend, now, maybe because of the support of my now-bulging thigh muscles due to all the cycling I've done in the past year in an attempt to get fit! My doctors reckoned it'll probably go away in time...but from what I've read on the Net I might suffer from it the rest of my life - the docs just don't seem to know all that much about it, or can't seem to agree on it anyway!

Hmm I want to say three years (my anniversary of my riding accident was two weeks ago). But I remember riding over to my dad and telling him "It's my bad knee." Hmmm.... since sixth grade (BIG girl fell on me and I landed on my left knee) I guess. So that would be six year. Ho shat.
7.22.2004: horseback riding accident :(
5.9.2008: scope + plica removal on left knee.
12.16.2008: de-plica-tize my right knee.
3.14.2011: lateral release + medial plication on left knee.

I honestly can't remember when my knees haven't hurt.  My folks talk about me being a child and crying and saying they hurt.  Glad I don't remember that back then.  At least they seem to be getting better.  No use worrying about the past I will look forward instead.  I am now 43.

Since 1973, at age 15,  34 years. Have had 7 surgeries since then with the last being a PKR last December. With luck I'll get 10 years out of this before surgery #8.

Well, I dropped a guy across my right knee in judo class in 1986 and it swelled up like a cantaloupe.  I had no insurance, so I didn't discover the extent of the damage until 1998 when I totally blew out the ACL.  I had a skiing accident in 1991 that did in my left knee.  So, count me in at 21 years!
