Is numbness around ankle & shin normal 7 wks post-op ?
« on: August 24, 2007, 02:10:31 PM »
I am 7 weeks post-op from having a ORIF on my Tibia Plateua (plate & 4 screws).
I still have a little numbness around my ankle and alongside my shin....Is this normal ?
When can I expect the numbness to go away ?

Hi Jimbo,

Quite often with certain types of knee surgery there can be numbness due to nerve damage. This may be permanent or temporary, is nothing to worry about unless it spreads dramatically and will usually ease off as you go through your rehab programme.
If you are worried then give your OS a call. However, I find it ssurprising that you weren't told that this could happen.

Please try not to worry. Let us know how you get on. Take care,
