Hard lump on screw removal site
« on: August 13, 2007, 09:26:17 PM »
Hi all just a quick question. On june 5th of this year I had a PFJR and also a screw was removed from my TTT that i had had in the same leg a couple of years ago. My question being this about a week after my surgery. I developed a very small hard lump where the screw was. Now it  is the size of a 50 cent piece it is not soft in any way very hard and it "burns" is the best way i can describe it. It feels like it is sunburned inside in out. If anyone has any idea as what it could be plese let me know.

      Thanks,
       Jenny

is it new bone?
if the screw was removed you body will have filled in the hole with new bone and perhaps thats what it is? if its new bone i wouldnt be surprised if its a bit sore for a while.
Im only guessing - Id say ask an expert - like your OS or physio perhaps?

Thanks for the reply. I have a Appt with My OS next monday. My biggest concern is how fast this lump has grown. I have been trying to find out all the info i can. It was there a day after my surgery but very very tiny when my OS saw it then. He thought maybe it was some sutures inside. So i guess i will find out more on Monday. will keep you posted.

Let us know what your OS says.  My husband had the same problem with his hardware removal site. He was told that it was an area of calcification due to healing where the hardware created holes. He had the same burning issues and still does. He had his hardware removed two years ago. It would be interesting to get another point of view.

They basically told him that he would have to live with it. There really wasnt much that could be done. I am hoping your OS will hve different news and in that case we will get a second opinion (fingers crossed)!!!!

Best of luck at your appointment

Well I got back from my OS appt very late yesterday. Sorry for not posting, wasn't feeling very well. My OS said he felt What i had was a neuroma. Because of the burning and the intense pain that travels down my shin. I was givin a injection on cortizone/lido
and was prescribed a cream called Ketoprofen-Lido. I have to rub on the area to try and desensatize (i know i spelled that wrong) it. I have to follow -up in 2 weeks. If the cream is not helping he said he would discuss further options with me which yes involve surgery :'(. I will keep you posted as to how i am doing.
      Take care
