Any suggestions?
« on: August 08, 2007, 03:07:24 AM »
Ok... so im having my left knee operated on in a week or so... But im starting to kinda get concerned about my right knee and my hip sometimes... lately i've been getting really sharp pains in my right knee and they sometimes shoot up into my hip.. I've just thought it was from me putting all or most of my weight on my right side because my left is messed up...Should i bring this up to my OS before the surgery or just wait and see if it corrects itself after the surgery... im kinda lost as to what i should do. Any help is greatly appreciated..Thanks!

Ya know I'm certainly not a doctor, but I think you owe it to your os the disclose anything about your entire body.  Just a mention and let them understand totally what's going on.  Good luck.

When you have a bad joint you tend to compensate for it with the opposite limb.  My OS has attributed a lot of my right knee problems to the repeat surgeries on my left knee.  You may find that the "good" knee improves after you  recover from surgery and regain the strength in the knee/leg.  You could truly have 2 bad knees but it may be overuse/compensation.

^^ that's what happened to me. I messed up my "good" knee by overcompensating for my "bad" knee. Now I'm stuck with two bum knees.

But RickyHouse-- I would def bring it up with my OS.
7.22.2004: horseback riding accident :(
5.9.2008: scope + plica removal on left knee.
12.16.2008: de-plica-tize my right knee.
3.14.2011: lateral release + medial plication on left knee.

It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!!!!

definitely tell him, but certainly it might just be from overuse.
but its important he knows everything to do with your body, your OS is the person who needs to be fully informed.

what surgery are you having?
1986 - recurrent dislocations of right patella began
1988 - Modified Hauser Procedure
1991 - dislocations started again
2005 to 2007 - 150 dislocations in 2 years - OUCH!!!
June 2007 - new OS, new physio
Oct 2007 - VMO woke up
Mar 2008 - big quads, still dislocating
Apr 2008 - next OS app
