knee pain
« on: July 22, 2007, 06:56:21 AM »
i suffered knee injury (ACL tear right knee) in 1998. under went ACL reconstruction in 1998. after surgery i had complications and there was adhesion in the knee joint causing stiffness of knee. knee was manipulated under general anaesthesia. as a result there was some damage inside knee joint and ACL also became non functional. i used to experience pain in the knee . especially inside of knee cap. i could only walk with help of two elbow crutches. in 2001 i again showed myself to a knee surgeon who suggested a revision . i again underwent ACL reconstruction.this time BPTB GRAFT WAS TAKEN FROM THE left knee and fixed in right knee. also some shaving of the articular surface was done. after 6 months i was able to walk without support. till 2006 i had no problem in walking swimming and climbing stairs. in dec 2006 i suffered a fall my knee swelled and the pain returned in my right knee , by the end of 3 months i was again on the 2 elbow crutches . i can not walk without support. i have pain over inferior pole patella. ROM terminally painful. x ray shows creptive changes over patellar articular surfaces . there is narrowing of patello femoral joint. also there is scarring of patella due to repeated surgeries.gap between lower end of patella and femur has also reduced by 5 mm.resulting in rubbing of lower end of patella and the femur. MRI reports negate any chondromalasia in articular surface of patella .Limited MRI could only reveal articular surface of patella.excessive image degradation of MRI was due to artifacts caused by ACL repair screws
what should i do to get rid of knee pain?

Wow that knee has been through alot. I would request an appointment with another Orthopedic Surgeon or the same one who did your revision.. and I would try and find myself a good physiotherapist.  At this point it may be difficult for you to get 100% better but i'm sure there are things that can be done to make you more comfortable.
