I've seen alot worse than that oversees, but it still just gives me a chill to see someone able to cut into another human like that and explain everything so calmly.. I guess it takes a certin type of person to be a surgon.  I know I'll be out for the surgery but Ehh!

Im really gutted that the 2 sixty minute videos have been removed. Would loved to have seen the full precedure. Anybody know if there is anywhere else that a full procedure is available, preferably with hamstring graft?

All these surgery videos look neat.  Especially after they are edited.  Lots of ohhhs, and ahhhs.
In my opinion they are all a complete waste of time, something that can be equated with a 19th Century traveling medicine show complete with a 105 year old Indian who does back flips. 

Whe we really want to see the video of how the person is doing in the clinic the next day, and a month later.  The surgery video is good for interns and residents.

The post surgery video is important for the people who are going to undergo the procedure to see.  Sorry, but I almost never see such videos besides my own. That is where the money is-how the guy is doing after the surgery.

I have to disagree with you there Dr Mark.

As patients, we do not have any idea of what is happening to us and these videos show what is going on while we are out of it. They were posted to help patients come to terms with their impending operations or to allow them to see what had been done.

All videos can be manipulated to show exactly what the director wants to show so really pre-op, post-op or during they ALL still only show what has not been left on the editing suite floor. We have to just take things at face value and make our own minds up as to whether the results are good bad or just plain indifferent.

I didn't look at these because I know I have a weak stomach but others did and found them helpful. I think it is a shame that the links to some of them no longer work.

Well, we will just have to disagree on the value of these videos.  I have been looking at them for thirty years.  Many of the neatest operations to watch turned out not to deliver the bacon with a darn for the patient.  Beyond that ther are always edited to take out the faux pais.   
Certainly with your history, you would be more interested in the product than the process.

The field of Orthopaedic Surgery has become very technically oriented.  Much of the medical literature has been based on techniques, rather than outcomes during the '90s and the early part of this decade.

The emphasis has now shifted to patient centered outcomes.  While, looking at a video may leave you with some element of comfort or disgust, the docs are proud of their technical prowess, but  many folks (myself included) would be more interested if the guy was able to walk afterward.  Why don't these docs publish videos of their patient walking and bending and straightening their knees in the immediate post op period?  There is no way edit out or in a person walking, straightening, and bending their knee like a normal person.  If I saw that on a video, I would feel much more comforted that I would get over this unfortunate event in a satisfactory way.

I have no interest in the process per se, just getting an idea of what has or will be done. As I said I have never watched them. But patient information is always important, much more so than many surgeons realise. Many people here on the boards do not get any information from their surgeons. In my humble and medically uneducated opinion, I would hazard a guess that an idea about what has been or will be done is better than nothing.

I'm curious about your remark quoted above - you do not know "my history" so how can you possibly comment in any way? If you are commenting just on the very brief list on my signature, it is just that, brief.
