Had to swallow my pride
« on: July 10, 2007, 10:07:00 PM »
I had to ask a friend for some help around the house today, the kitchen was a mess and I don't have a dishwasher.

I hated having to ask, but I didn't realise just how hard the recovery from knee surgery can be.  Its only 2 weeks since the Op, but my wrists, shoulders and back are sore from using the crutches, the brace is so uncomfortable and my spirits are very low today.

Hey, that's what good friends are for.  My mother's friends did the same thing for her after heart surgery.  They cooked and cleaned and just came by for visits.

I hope you're doing better.  We all know what it's like.

Hello, that is great your friend came over to help. There is nothing wrong with asking for help.  My family lives 2 hrs away and my husband works all day and my girls are on summer vaction if it was not for my girls I would of not gotten anything done.

I understand how the crutches hurt, when I was on them I put all my weight on my hands so most of the time it was the palms that were sore. You keep your head up it will get better.

Have a blessed day and get some rest

There comes a time when you just have to look out for yourself.  You can't do it all.  Take care, rest, & heal.

              patella fracture
              (no surgery, long, slow recovery)

Yeah, I totally agree. I like to be very independent too. When I had my last knee op I went back to my parents place until I was able to do a bit more. :)

Amanda, good for you swallowing your pride.  That is a tough thing to do but you have to put yourself first right now.  You probably made your friend feel good in the process.  Noone likes a martyr and you are not a martyr.
Proud of you.

That's what friends are for.. and i'm sure you'd do the same for your friend if it were her in the same situation!!! :D
You shouldn't feel that you HAVE to do every little thing between now and when your recovery is really coming along... ask for help there is no shame in that, at all... NOt asking for help when you need it, is a bigger problem. :)
Keep up the good work...everyday will get a little better :)
