Anyone had a Hauser procedure??
« on: June 26, 2007, 11:29:37 AM »
Hi,
Just received my medical records from 19 years ago - turns out it was a 'modified Hauser procedure' they did on me - for recurrent patellar dislocations. Notes say I had patella alta but trochlear groove not shallow. Quads were equal at time of surgery.
Have looked for some info online but cant find anything much.

Anyone know anything about this procedure?
Thank you
Tanya
1986 - recurrent dislocations of right patella began
1988 - Modified Hauser Procedure
1991 - dislocations started again
2005 to 2007 - 150 dislocations in 2 years - OUCH!!!
June 2007 - new OS, new physio
Oct 2007 - VMO woke up
Mar 2008 - big quads, still dislocating
Apr 2008 - next OS app

Hi Tanya,

This site http://www.kneehippain.com/patient_pain_surgery.php discusses the Hauser procedure.  Basically it is a type of TTT that moves the tibia tubercle distally to correct patella alta.

Hope that site helps.

Patty

Thank you Patty,
That was a very interesting article.

Id be interested to know about success rates of this procedure. I began dislocating again within 3 years of surgery - my surgeon says I probably tore out a lot of the repair work that had been done. He now maintains (19 years later), that its muscle atrophy causing my problems, not a mechanical issue with my knee itself, as it works ok under no stress. Im am currently on an new PT program - but my physio thinks that I probably DO need surgery to stabilise - so I dont know what to think!!!
I will be seeing my surgeon again on August 9th and my physio will have sent her report to him then so I will see what he has to say.....
Id like to avoid another surgery at all costs, it took 2 years to recover last time and Ive had constant knee problems since!!!
