« on: June 12, 2007, 04:18:02 AM »
I was just in the shower and i came across a lump on the back of my knee, on one of my tendons, near the inside of my knee, and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo painful. it is tender to the touch. I am applying heat right now.

please help, it hurts so bad.
for what it matters, today was my first day off crutches. (no specific injury)

thanks in advance,

Call your os first thing in the morning!!!  I am not sure you should be applying heat.  Is it helping your pain?  I have personally never been told to apply heat and worry it could aggravate what you have going on. I know I am not a professional just a long history of knee problems and trying to help.  I am sorry you are in so much pain and scared.  I wish I could take it all away for you.
Please make that call asap then you won't have to worry.  You might get lucky and find out it is nothing big.
Good Luck
Allison

thank you so much for responding.

the heat is kinda helping with the pain, but it is still tender to the touch. it is like a lump on that tendon or ligament, whatever it is, that comes down from my thigh, more on the inside of the knee. i just found it, and i have never had anything like this before.
thank you for ur kind words, they really help.

thanks so much,
jak

ps. is there anyone that i could call right now, it is 8:35 PM my time, just to ask them what to do??
i have finals in school tmw, and i cant afford to miss them.

Are  you in the US? Your OS office should have an emergency system where somone could call you back yet tonight or if it is really bad try the ER.  You have to decide if you need a response tonight or can wait until after school tomorrow.   I don't know how bad it is.  Still don't think you should apply heat.  Sorry I just think it might be a bad idea.

It sounds like a Baker's Cyst. Not an emergency if that's what it is. Anyway, always ice.

Jak, maybe you could have been waiting with calling to next day. I doubt this is anything serious, though understand your concerns.
Always ice instead of heat as heat makes swelling worse and maybe also the pain when you take the heat pad away. Could probably be some swelling and soreness after walking without crutches as you have been on crutches for a longer time.
Surgery 6 times left knee torn meniscus, RSDS,chondromalacia, nervdamage cause constant nervpain, chronic inflamm.
Spinaldamage wheeler 100%.
Right knee damaged aug-06, use brace surgery 4/9-07.LCL tear.

How are you doing today Jak?  I hope you were able to talk to your doctor and get more information out of him.  I also hope I didn't scare you to much with all my questions last night on chat...my husband has suffered many blood clots and it gets me very concerned when some of the symptoms start to appear.  Hopefully nothing got any worse, and that I didn't freak you out too much!  That certainly wasn't the intent.  Hopefully the pain is just a cyst or something that flared up because of all the added activity yesterday without your crutches.

How did your finals go?????

Let us know how you're doing,
