New to board
« on: June 06, 2007, 05:55:12 PM »
I am new to board. Fell off my stove (don't ask) on April 21/07. Broke right fibula at ankle and have a depressed tibial fracture, NWB until July 7, with a hinged brace. They rebuilt me with screws and plate. I have had pt for 3 weeks. Have ROM 75 degrees. Yesterday I came home from physio and my deaf dog tried to bolt out of the front door. I just reacted and put weight on my right leg for about 3 seconds. I am deathly afraid that I damaged myself. My husband reassures me that after 6 weeks its not likely. I have no excessive swelling or pain. Can someone enlighten me.

Hi

Dont take any risks - go back to see your Doctor or Orthopaedic Consultant - you may have disturbed the surgical repair - DONT DELAY  for peace of mind

Best wishes

After 6 weeks postop and for such short time and with brace on and no pain or swelling after I am pretty sure you can take this easy.
If you have physio soon ask your phys if not just call your OS and just say what happened and go from that.
Maybe they will have a look at you or maybe not.
Surgery 6 times left knee torn meniscus, RSDS,chondromalacia, nervdamage cause constant nervpain, chronic inflamm.
Spinaldamage wheeler 100%.
Right knee damaged aug-06, use brace surgery 4/9-07.LCL tear.

HI THERE!
ouch! i can really symphasise with you!
at five weeks post op i fell down our whole flight of stairs and landed on my bad leg.
the surgery i had done was all soft tissue work (which i was advised is a very intricate op,like sewing noodles together) like you i was beside myself with worry.
i went straight to A & E  and was refered the next day to a specialist, the week later i saw my O.S for my six week check.
my O.S reassured me everything was o.k.
i would definatley get this checked out but try not to worry yourself too much, even how delicate my op was after just 5 weeks and a big fall everything was ok!!
take care and keep me posted how you get on!
claire.
i had a motorcycle accident-landed on right knee!(mar 05)
...arthroscopy - 4th feb 06.
...VMO Advancement,LR+JMedial reefing - 24th jan 07.
...28 feb 07 i fell down 14 stairs.....more pain and stress!
...now at PT working on ROM and strenghening

I am seeing OS next wednesday and PT on Tuesday. Nothing unusual today. Only patellar pain with ROM which is normal. I am in Manitoba Canada & with our health care system I probably wouldn't get in any sooner to see OS. I waited for 4 days for surgery while they brought equipment into my hospital from another one. We sometimes have to wait months to see specialists. Thankyou to everyone who took time to reply - I appreciate it.

 :D  Hi there,
Saw OS yesterday and got great news. Saw x-ray - bone density is good, fractured is healed, got ok to start weight bearing, & as we went down the hall (braceless) as OS was carrying brace to PT department for alteration - he turned around as I was hopping on one foot with the walker - and said- you can start touching foot to ground. So the plan is to start PWB as tolerated and progress to FWB with brace and then to FWB w/o brace. Given go ahead for full range of motion excercise without brace. I am so excited - my leg is going to rejoiin my body again. He also said to pump knee as well as ankle to help circulation and strengthen them. I have a L-shaped plate with four screws holding my tibial plateau together. Was interesting to see. My next PT appointment is on Tuesday and can't wait.
