Just come back from seeing the OS
« on: May 22, 2007, 05:02:51 PM »
Hi all,

The OS gave me a good 5-10 minutes which seems a lifetime when i'm constantly asking him questions. He asked me how i was and i told him i was doing great except for the fall i had on Saturday (I didn't go into detail other than i fell from twisting my ankle on my good leg) he pulled a face until i told how i did it was my ankle twisting. He performed the Lachman test and some other test where he both moved the shin bone and thigh bone up and down or something like that. He then said there was some play in it but there was an end part of the play. He explained that at this stage in the graft that it will appear loose like the test kinda showed but he seemed that to fully find out if i've at all damaged it is after 4 months or so. He said that the graft (hamstring) will react different it terms of injuring it that the original ACL would.

He seems to thing cos the tests he performed was ok in his eyes and there was an end point in movement that the graft is ok and i should continue my rehab as before even though he gave it a good tug on the Lachman test. He went into detail about my meniscus repair and the recovery saying that it'll either heal through the repair given or he would basically have to remove it if i get the locking but he seemed in high hopes with my recovery. He mentioned that i shouldn't do anything pivotal or twisting until atleast after the 6-8 month mark and then only to reintroduce me to it slowly with certain exercises.

This lifted my day up as i was dreading the worse.

So i'll see him in 4 months time but he said if i get any problems with stability etc then i should see him again sooner.

I left the appointment and shook the nurse's hand as the OS spoke into his dictaphone about me.

Fingers crossed  :P

I'm just back from my OS visit today and I have a good end point as well and he is pretty happy with me so I think I will go off to the pub as well.

Very well, it's just one of those things - some people get it straight away, and some have to work that bit harder.

At the end of the day, I can get full extension - it's only a big worry if you can't get it at all.  That's when you know you're probably going to have to go under the knife to get it corrected.

But it's coming so much easier now, and when I get it, I can keep it for longer - i'm about 1 degrees off at the min so a couple more extra PT exercises will have me raring to go into my next phase!  Roll on August and give me a football!

So happy for you. Resume your workouts as your knee allows. Don't miss workouts.

One day you will wake and your leg will be straight, but this take time and work. Keep it up!
