Need some advice
« on: May 19, 2007, 11:24:48 PM »
Eli had his autograft Nov 29th.  Things have been okay but he still has pain.  Today his knee swelled right where the plugs were placed.  It does not look good.  What should we do?  wait until Monday and have him seen? ???
My 17 year old son had the OATS procedure on November 29th, 2006.  He has two previous scopes on the right knee and one on the left.

Hello,

If he is that swollen and in that much pain I would call the doctor or take him to the er asap.

Good luck,

Peggy

How is your son doing?? It is sometimes normal to still have pain and swelling at the plug site. I am almost two years out from my OATS and I still get pain and swelling at the site depending on what I do.
It takes a long long time for the sites to heal completely and he may have pain for a while depending on what he is doing.
When in doubt though call the doctor. Especially if the area is hot and red!!!

Let me know how you guys are doing!!

Thanks.  I have an appointment with our local OS on Wednesday and have a phone call into Cole, actually Kyle his PA.  I'm glad you told me that it can be normal.  I'm assuming if the plug had dislodged he would be in more pain than he is now.

The swelling is from the site they took the plugs from on his knee.  The doc drained the fluid with a needle and he is doing better.  The doc said he does not know why it happened but to watch it and if it continues the next step is an MRI, which in my mind, is the most worthless tool ever!  Our magnet is so small compared to big city ones. Our hospital has a truck that has the MRI Magnet on it.  Just plain stupid.  If you want quality care don't live in Wisconsin !

MRI's are not very accurate to begin with no matter the size. I have had several and they have missed much. There are many posts on the board where they have missed alot.

I sure hope your son is getting better!!!
