Swelling... and other questions
« on: May 07, 2007, 02:15:15 AM »
hi, im 17 and a little over 2 years ago i popped my knee out during a basketball game. I went to the hospital and they just trew me in a knee immobilizer and said id be fine. Well  for the past few months its been popping out at least 5 times a month. Last tuesday it happened (it always goes back in) and this time it swelled right up and i could barely walk. I have an appointment for the orthopedic surgeon to check it out on May 17th. But its been 5 days and the swelling has not gone down at all. It doesnt hurt much any more, but when i try to straighten my leg my knee feals jammed. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Hi Ashley,
I don't know why you are still swollen.  Luckily you do have that OS appt coming up soon.  If I were you I would ice and elevate my knee.  Just curious, when you dislocate do you ever have to knock your knee cap back in yourself of does it do it itself.  I guarantee the OS will ask you that.
Keep icing and elevating. I hope you get good news at your OS visit.
