Hello..
A Bone scan is like an xray sort of , but then inject you with a nuclear isotope, then you go away for a set amount of time.. which for me was 4 hours.. drink as much water as you can to help it move through the body. Then when you come back they scan your bones to see where there is increased pick up in the bones.   It is looking for all sorts of things, but mostly increased activity, which can mean any number of things.

My OS requested one on my knee.. after surgery, physio... didn't provide relief, and then an MRI and plain xrays failed to show the problem.

It's not so bad... and the needle for the nuclear stuff is given intravenously so it's not like getting an intramuscular injection which can pinch a bit.

GOodluck :)

i tried to look for things on bone scans, and the info said that they look for things like bone cancer. i got kinda nervous, because cancer is the number one disease in my family and they dont know that. should i tell them, maybe to get a bone scan sooner than normal??

Thanks,
Jacqui

Bone scans don't show soft tissue I don't think so they probably wouldn't be all that useful. The best diagnostic tool is arthroscopic surgery.
