How many posts makes you what?
« on: July 02, 2003, 04:43:39 PM »
how many posts makes you what.

I'm curently a Forum Faithful whereas I have seen other names for posters - can you explain how many posts you have to have to be called what.

I'm just interested in this as I have just noticed it and I've been on this new forum for for nearly a year!

TIA
Lots of love

Hi Lizzie,

I'm not sure about all of the amounts but I think you start as a MicroGeek, become a Minigeek at around 20 , regular poster at 50ish, then a forum faithful around the 75-100 mark ( not sure on that one!) and finally become a SuperKneeGeek when you hit 500 posts.

Hope that helps and if it's inaccurate that someone else can pick up on my faults!  ;)

Love and hugs....Jo

KNEEguru,

I've been thinking and I was wondering if there was any way to remove the number of posts listed whenever someone posts, perhaps just their title under their name?  I dunno if this is possible or not, but if it is, I think it'd be a good idea.  The number of posts seem to create issues in a way so I thought I'd ask, no one really needs to see their number of posts, but the titles are good, and creative too!! :D    Just wondering!

Rachel is it really that much of an issue on how many posts people have made?

I thought this was a sight dedicated to knees not a popularity contest.

That's exactly my point, some people have turned this into a popularity contest, so I thought maybe some tension and things around here might lift if the number of posts weren't shown, only the different status things, microgeek, minigeek, forum faithful, superkneegeek.  I thought it might make things run more smoothly around here, it was just a thought, if it doesn't happen oh well.  I'm just trying to help resolve some of the tension that's been left around here.

Guys

I hope that I haven't started anything here  ;D :o ::) ;) it was merely me being inquisitve as to what  number of postings go with what titles.  Simple, nothing else than that.

It's not the quantity, it's the quality of the post after all.

Hi!

I have wondered about the number of posts being on the threads as well--I once had an email from somebody about mine and it was a lovely, supportive email but it made me wonder why we have that feature.   I assued it might be for some kind of site record keeping--but I wasn't sure.  I had considerd changing my screen name like Helena did to kind of make that go away--but my name is important to me because it is my identifier everywhere on the net.

We post to help somebody or because we need help--and I believe deep down in my heart that there are days when each of us needs the board for support and love and information.  The other days are days when the board needs us because things are going in some positive vein and we can help somebody else when we share thoe vibes.

If we were to be polled on this idea, I'd support eliminating the numbers to remove that as a possible distraction from what this board is really about.  I know that might not be a popular opinion with everyone, so please understand it is only my opinion and that is all that it is worth.  It is not intended to create any quarels or hurt anyone's feelings or be critical.  This has absolutely NOTHING to do with anyone except me.  Sylvia

I tend to agree with deleting the number of posts a person has made, which I already have mentioned privately to kneeguru, it does seem to be causing so niggly frustration that may have a tendancy to overrule what the true purpose of the board is....

Why not have showing the number of posts optional?  That way, those who wish to hide their post counter may do so, and those who like to see their progress shown under their name can?

Hi Helena,

I know that you were avoidng confusion--i still have to talk to myself whn I'm answring some of those posts--to kep my brain straight about who I'm talking to--tee hee.

I had just thought it might be a way to get past the number...but are you saying that the new name didn't chage your number then?  I guess that wouldn't work.  It was a thought.

Thanks for the info :)  Sylvia

If you want to change your screen name like Helena did to KTF you do do this by following this:

Click on profile at the top of the page (underneath Knnegeeks banner)

You will a required information section on your profile, where it says name, put the name you want to use as your screen name

The click change profile and your screen name will be changed.

All your posts will remain the same as you chose a user name when you joined, that is stored to your IP address and you can use any screen name you want without affecting posts/geek status etc.

I like having the number of posts visible, because then I know exactly how new they are when a newbie posts. Especially if it is their first post, I want to welcome them aboard. When I was new, I was very reassured to get a response from an experienced KNEEgeek.  I admit, though, that I kind of wish the number stayed the same on each original post, rather than growing with each subsequent post. For instance, my very first post now has the same number on it as this post.

The feature I like most about the board's format is the fact that a user does not have to click on every individual post to get it to open. I also really like the user profile area at the bottom of the post. I sure wish everybody would put info there about their particular knee issue.

KNEEgeeks have been a very important part of my journey. Thanks, Knee Guru and everybody!

Hi LizL

I agree with you about filling in the profile, it means you can get an at a glance overview of that persons knee trouble.

I can understand how some people might feel uneasy or uncomfortable about filling it in though, they might think that their details were used in some other way or somthing

I have deleted the bit showing the number of posts a person has made. It seemed like it was causing some problems.

It would not be hard to do, but I think most of the members would prefer just to leave the posts in. It gives an idea of how likely the member is to have been on the boards long enough to become knowledgeable.

Your 20 posts are not in line with each respective game rules - a load of nonsense - suggest you follow the rules by going back to the first post of each game.
