Surgery Scheduled
« on: April 15, 2007, 07:06:46 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I am writing to let everyone know that my surgery has finally been scheduled.  It will be June 27 at 12:00 pm.  My last visit with my OS didn't go like I was hoping. He told me that I wouldn't be going back to work after the 2 week period like I was hoping. After consulting with another OS they realized that they are gonna have to do more to my knee than originally thought. So he said that I might be able to go back at 4 weeks but more likely 6 weeks cause they are gonna have to take bone out of my pelvis to put in my knee,, they have to lift my kneecap up and over instead of just over, plus they have to fix the grade 3 tear in my miniscus.

My OS did give me the recommendation to stand for 4 hours and sit for 4 hours at my job. I found that I can't hardly stand to stand for more than for 4 hours at a time. He refused to give me any pain pills cause he said that it is a chronic condition and taking pain meds won't do me much good cause I will get used to them after 2 weeks and I will get hooked on them.  So for now I am just dealing with the pain the best I can,, but it is starting to get pretty unbearable especially at night when I'm sleeping,,, I don't think I have had a decent nights sleep in about a month.

I am going to look into it this week.  It is either that  or I go to my regular doctor to see if he will give me something.

When you see your GP ask him /her about a TENS unit, preferably one that is multi-program as you could also use it to help stimulate your quads both before and after surgery.  It would be a lot better to us a TENS unit rather than to get accustomed to the pain meds too much before surgery.  Good luck.
