Venting about my left knee
« on: April 15, 2007, 04:42:47 AM »
I think I just need to vent about this l knee.  Everyone is trying to be supportative but...........   I don't complain about it but everyone keeps asking "how is your knee?" or "are you ok?"  I appreciate their thoughtfulness but no my knee isn't ok and asking only make me more upset about it!  Its pretty obvious when I walk and try to sit for any amount of time there is a problem.

I hope that doesn't sound too pitiful, however I am tired of trying to explain to doctors, surgeons and friend exactly how it feels.  From x-rays mri's and other tests they know all of the knee problems, but don't seem to be listening to me about the pain.  Tossing on a sleeve and giving me crotizone shot will not remove a torn menisus, ganglian cyst around knee ligament and nerve and itb and having chrondomilicia.  Many many of you have much worse problems than I do, however that doesn't diminish my problems either.  I simply would like to take a 25 minute walk without being in such pain i can't even describe it.

Ok so I think i just needed to vent here.  My knee is so fluid filled and tight tonight I can't even sit her to read these posts.  Augh!! Thanks for listening.

hi there eaglemom!
i'm so sorry to hear you are feeling so bad, regardless of the injury/cause of your knee pain you have a right to vent!! (we all have!!)
you do not sound pitiful at all and unless family/friends etc have experienced the pain themselves i don't think they CAN understand.
(at least yours still ask how your knee is!! ........mine try and avoid the subject now i think at all costs!!!)
i just wondered as im not sure of your "knee history" if you have seen a specialist about your knee?? you have put "surgeons" in your post so i guess surgery must have been done?
if you were not happy with the job they did/advice they gave you i would definatley seek a second /third/forth opinion,i did!
i was told at 27 (age i was when i had my accident) i would have to live with it! i was not accepting this and sought more opinions,i have now had x 2 ops and so far so good am doing well,(all being well this will be the last one!!)i can now walk around for about an hour at a time (i'm 3 months post op) and my knee is getting stronger everyday (i even managed to drive again yesterday!)
please seek more opinions to try and get this sorted!
you have a life to live and no one should have to arrange their life around their knees!!
please keep posting!! vent/scream/cry/yell all you like!!
i'm here to listen!!
take care,
claire x

Hi Eaglemom,

Bravo and very well said.  I have said to people before - I have become my knee!!!  I know everyone means well and that they are either really concerned or just don't know what else to say but can you ask me something esle sometime?  I told the newest OS that I just want to be pain free and not be a knee anymore.

I think many of us feel as you do.  It hurts all the time - don't make me describe it to you.  Don't ask me everyday when you see me day after day.  If there is some change I'd probably share that with you (although maybe not).

Great venting and vent away any time - completely understand.

Nice to meet you,

Deborah

I am sorry to hear your story and feel your frustrations.  I am angry at the people who don't acknowledge my huge knee issues and frustrated with those who ask how it is going and don't get the response they want. I am  8 day postop and hurt like hell.  No it is not fine yet, No I am not sleeping well. Yes I am still  taking pain meds every four hours.  Yes I have low self esteem right now.  No thank you I do not want to be optomistic at this particular moment.  Oh, and thank you family for asking if I need anything or would like to get out of the house.

We are more than our knee problems but somtimes they consume us.  I am sure things will get better for all of us, just don't have any idea when.

Hang in there!  Vent anytime you want I swear it helps.

Allison

:BIG HUG:

Let it out. (like trainwreck said) It helps so much to just let all the frustration and angry out. It's so easy to get mad at people who just want to help because they don't understand what we're going through! When they ask "how's the knees doing?" I just want to scream bloody hell, but that's not the answer they want to hear. Nobody wants to hear about how my knees feel like they are on fire, or how I won't be able to walk tomorrow because I exerted it too much today.

The whole band (all 280 of them plus the staff) knew after marching an 8 minute show they were not to ask me anything relating to my knees or pain- they were only supposed to find someone to get me off the field and to stretch me out and make sure that I got whatever I needed. It was nice not getting asked every five seconds "OMG are you ok?!?!?!?!" and when some stupid freshmen asked- I was allowed to beat them (mwahaha).

Ok enough about me. I hope you stay strong!
