Special poems by children
« on: June 27, 2003, 02:02:25 AM »
Hi!!

I've been doing a lot of poetry writing with kids in summer school this year and wanted to share this one with you.  A fourth grade girl wrote this--and although it is definitely fourth grade work, it touched me in this day and age...Enjoy, Sylvia

                            Love is Better

                            Love is better
                         than hate.  Love is
                              better than
                      hate because you can
                            get more love
                       when you share love.
                               Don't share
                           hate because you
                              get hate back.

That has got to be the most honest and truthful poem ever written.  She must be a special child :)

Here's another--this one really hurts--I knew this big sister, was her teacher.

This poem is not finished yet--some technical stuff...but it is a tough one, written by a younger sixth grade brother...

              My Big Sister

She's my big sister
     She's pregnant and she's
     7 months.  She's always tired
     and stressed out.  She's only
14 and 1/2 years old.  She only likes
     three animals--cats, birds, and gerbils.

She's my big sister.
     She's always angry.  She
     only likes one color for
the baby, that is baby blue.
     She always goes shopping
     for the baby.  Her closet
     is full of baby clothes.

She's my big sister.
     She's always hungry,
     Her favorite food is
     pork and beans.  Her favorite
     vegetables are carrots.
     Her favorite fruits are
     apples, grapes, and cantaloupe.

There is so much power in writing...words can do more than any weapon or act.

I think childrens poems are wonderful maybe you should consider getting some of them published and maybe selling them for charity, I'm sure there are many others who would like to share in this joy.
