what is wrong with my girlfriends knees?
« on: March 01, 2007, 07:35:01 PM »
Hello. Im new to this site and am just trying to find out about a certain type of knee surgery that will be performed for the third time on my girlfriend.  She constantly has pain in her right and left knee and appartently the doctors have to go in and cut out some type of tissue that is beasically causing her body to eat away at her knee cap. If she doesnt have this surgery done for the third time in five years shell have to have a knee replacement surgery by the age of 21.  She keeps alot of things to herself and wont tell me anything else about whats going on...but im really worried about her...  If anyone has any information for me id be glad for the help. thank you

If I were you I would ask her if you can come with her at her next appointment to learn more. Tell her that you are worried and show her that you care for her. Maybe she is afraid that you will leave her if she bothers you too much with her knee problems.
Tell her that this doesn't matter and that you will be for her there anyway.
Also can be tough for her dealing with this and maybe when she accept this and move on she will tell you more.
Wish you the best.

hi cc4everlei11, im not sure what the name of the problem is that your girlfriend has but firstly i think it is lovely that you are showing so much concern for her!
she is probably very worried and distressed by the fact she was given this news and must have her reasons for not wanting to talk to you about this,i personally always feel i am burdening people with my problems when i off load to them how i feel or that i am in pain etc, even though im sure they are more then willing to listen to me(as im sure you are to her) i agree with nettan that you need to learn more, even if she does not want you to go with her next time .......can you find the name of the complaint she has??
the dictionary on here (on the home page) gives a brief description of what each problem is and once you know this you can look it up more indepthly.
does you girlfriend know much about the problem herself??
i was just wondering............ as if she doesn't this will concern her more.i think some doctors tell you what needs doing to you but don't always explain themselves in english (its all medical jargon) and if you don't ask questions they just assume you know!
i never knew much about the recent op i have had but have learned alot since ive been on
this website and as they say knowledge is power!!! LOL!
once you know the name of the complaint there will more then likely be a special section on here that you can re-post this in to get responses from people who have the same complaint or similar, let us know how you get on,take care, claire

hi there cody!
before i had my ops, i had physio and did find it made my knees more painful too, before i was given a proper diagnosis which was found out from my first op (keyhole surgery) i was treated for several different things that the first specialist thought i had wrong with my knee,as this was not the problem i think the prodding and poking around by the physio annoyed my knee causing me more pain!
even now i am doing physio again and although the physio knows this time what he is dealing with i still find it painful as it is touching a part of your body that is already feeling pretty traumatised already! it is there to help and i know at the moment i really NEED to go to physio as i can hardly bend my knee at all but i still find it painful!
As the saying goes no pain no gain!! although sometimes you just can't do with the pain!!
i hope your girlfriend gets on ok and you find out hat the cause of her problem is.
shes very lucky to have your support!
please keep me posted how you are both getting on!
take care,
claire x

I started to get more trouble after being given a specific set of exercises to do. My knee's behaviour changed quite dramatically about 5 days of these exercises, annoying as it seemed to help quite a lot at first.

I hope thinks work out for you both.

hi, hope you g/f is well.
i found that physio was always a lot worse for me the pain would be so intense that i would be vomiting at the end of the session. its brilliant that you are standing by her and giving her the support aswell as the space she needs, maybe you could tell her about this site so that if she has any questions of her own she could put them across, it couls also be something you both do together so that you can both get some information on what ever areas you may need.
the people on this site are brilliant, i've posted a few times and the replies you get and be very helpful, so just give it ago.
i hope your g/f is ok and just keep us posted.
