What knee problem have I got?
« on: February 28, 2007, 10:37:34 PM »
Hi Folks,

About 3 years ago my leg (just above the knee) came into contact with somebodies jaw during kick boxing. (Don't ask but his jaw was fine!). Since then every so often I get a dull ache in the top of the knee. For example if I sit in a seat with restricted leg space, after around 30 mins the ache starts - if I hold my leg completely straight the ache goes aways. TBH This doesn't cause me much problem normally, I can use the gym with little problem, but running on concrete really aggravates it, and sometimes stairs starts it off. I did go to the docs yonks ago but he was useless, anyone anyideas what is wrong with me??!

Cheers

Ash

hi ash!
im not really sure what you have done to your knee but i definatley would get another opinion, there are so many problems you can get with your knees and at least if you get another opinion or even 3 (thats how many i got!) you see someone elses perspective on it.
i would hate to think there is something more sinister going on there that is being ignored because of this octors opinion.

your'e not in the u.k re you!! just wondered if n.h.s!!

cheers, yeah am in the UK. The doctor said the NHS doesn't do referrals for this kind of injury (expect in extreme circumstances) and that I should go and see a chiropractor, I was never sure whether to trust a chiropractor so never got around to it...

Hi there

Really don't see why your doctor would not refer you, it doesn't matter how serious the problem is your within your rights to see a specialist. I would try and get to see someone else cause a GP can only tell so much anyway you need a OS to assess the situation properly.
Demand to be referred go in to them and really lay it on thick. Never leave things if there becoming a problem things could only end up getting worse.

Good luck

Sarah

Well, I'm in the U.S. land of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and whatever treatment I need!
At any rate, Quadriceps tendon injury (Patella tendon really) or thigh muscle deal is what I would expect. An MRI would show exactly what is going on. Don't know if you are gonig to have one. You can rehab muscle tissue, if the 'teeth' tore/injured your quads...If the pain is accompanies by limited motion in the leg - you NEED to get an MRI or CT scan...
FWIW.
