Having knee problems
« on: February 24, 2007, 07:02:13 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I am new to the boards.  I joined this board cause I am having knee problems.  I have been doing physical therapy. I have seen an orthopedic specialist,,, who told me I am going to have to have surgery.  I have another appointment with him on wednsday the 28th, I will then take in my MRIs.  From what the MRI report says I have a Grade 3 tear in the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus with and associated mild joint effusion.  I was also told that my kneecap is not in the right spot and is rotated.  Now this is just the left knee that I am talking about.  But the right knee is the same with the kneecap problem, but not sure what else is wrong with it yet,, as he is worried about the left knee first cause is it the one that has been hurting longer.

Hope your upcoming appointment will go well. Meanwhile read around here and also try come up with questions that you need to get answers on. I always have paper and pen in kitchen, so when I come up with anything I write that down and then bring that to my appointment.

Hello,,

Well i went to my appointment.  Things didn't go like i hoped. At least not with the type of surgery i was hoping to have.  Instead of arthoscopic like i was hoping i found out that the OS is gonna have to cut open my knee and remove part of my tibia bone and move it over and screw it back in place to line my kneecap back up. The OS is gonna do arthoscopic on the grade 3 tear in my meniscus.

Sorry for my lack of the medical terms for what is gonna happen,  not really the familiar with it yet

The good news is that he told me if everything goes alright i can go back to work after 2 weeks as long as im sitting cause i will have and immobilizer on my leg and it will be spring-summer time so i won't have to fight with pants i can wear shorts.

Aimee,

Sounds like he is going to do a TTT (Tibial Tuberosity Transfer) (I apologize for the spelling).  It is a fairly significant surgery, you should search on the Forum for other people who have had it, being back at work in two weeks might be a little optimistic but then again everyone heals differently. Good luck with it and keep us posted also ask questions, lots of them, most people hear can answer everything your OS can about the procedure in general.

Aimee,

I am sorry to here that you need a TTT.  As stated but UCI Gimp, it is a major surgery, but it is tolerable.

I have had TTT's on both of my knees and the result has been amazing.  Its been a lot of hard work, but I am glad I had the surgeries done.  I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about this surgery.

Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

Good luck with the surgery.  You will find a lot of support and advice on this board.
