Patella Tendon Release - post op help!!!!
« on: February 21, 2007, 08:12:14 AM »
Hello

I had my patella tendon trimmed back in Sept 06 and was told i would be back in the gym within 4-6 weeks. 5 months on and i can just about walk (with a bit of a limp). After having a 2nd opinon I've been told the best rehab is rest and that full rehab can take up to 18 months.

Has anybody out there had the same op and is there anything that i can do to speed up the rehab process.

I'm desperate now!!!

Thanks

Hi

The problem with Tendons, is that it can take months and months to heal, and there is no way one can forcast the period of painfree recovery - its a case of grin and bear it - dont even think that a third opinion would get you anywhere.   Every kinee is different.

Best wishes

Are you sure what you had done was a patellar tendon release? Or could it have been a lateral release in which they cut the lateral retinaculum that attatches at the side of the patella to allow it track more naturally in the groove with less lateral pressure?
