Return to OS without referral?
« on: February 07, 2007, 03:13:27 PM »
Hello All,
I was previously treated by an OS and underwent surgery for patellar tendonitis and medial plica resection. This was about a year and a half ago. I still have recurring pain and it is very frustrating. I am just wondering if I can just call my OS office and schedule an appointment or do I have to have a referral? Any thoughts?

Hello,

Does your insurance mandate a referral for specialists? If not you can call and ask for an appointment. If you need a referral call your primary care doc and ask for one.

Hi

I don't think it should be a problem just calling and making an appoinment, as you would still be listed as a patient of theres and they will still have all you past records. If you feel a bit uncertain about this or they won't give you an appoinment just see your GP and ask them just to right you a referrel update on you condition and pass it on.

Hope it gets sorted

Thanks guys!
I have sporadic pain off and on and not in the same places as before surgery. I'm in college and afraid of a diagnosis. I don't have time for PT or for another surgery. I climb TONS of stairs every day and I'm sure that's not helping. I want to get this checked out but fear the results. Frustration! I can deal with the pain, but just wish they could do something to make it stop! Don't know if I would just be wasting my time going back to the OS or not. Don't know if they can do anything for me or not....!

Hi

I don't believe that your wasting time going to see your OS. If your having problems you should seek out advice cause no one should be in pain, and I'm sure that they could do somethink to help. It's never nice waiting for results with things like this but it's better to know so that you can get it sorted the sooner the better, cause pain can be the most frustrating thing.

Good luck

Hi,

I agree with Sarah and add to the fact that if something is wrong, you may only be making it worse by ignoring the pain and if something is wrong they can take steps to correct it now before any more damage is done.

Please see your os.
