Soccer prevents teen pregnancy
« on: June 18, 2003, 07:08:34 AM »
I'm working as a summer camp athletic trainer this summer.  There is currently this international retreat going on for 15-18 year olds.  I guess last year 25 girls went home pregnant, so as a staff, we were told to intervene if they get more physical than hand holding.  Well this evening I decided to go out and kick my soccer ball around.  It was just starting to get dark, and right on the center line was a couple with their pants down (I am not exaggerating here) going at it.  Thinking quickly, I punted a ball in their direction hoping to get it close enough for them to realize that they were no longer alone.  I ended up beaning the guy in the back of the head.  The expression on their face's was priceless.

The part of me that has morbid curiosity just wants to know... 25 girls out of how many at camp?

That is truly awful!  But I like your reaction... way to think on your feet!

Cheers,
Barb :)

I'm not sure how many attended last year, but this year there are close to 1000.   I guess I should have also mentioned that the staff believes that the majority of the pregnancies were caused by the same guy.

OMG one man caused the majority of 25 pregnancies, what have the coaches nicknamed hime, I can think of a few good ones!

Maybe you and the other coaches will have to go on centre line patrol every night.

On a serious note it's sad that this happens to so many young girls.

Yes, that would certainly put a damper on the moment wouldn't it?  And by the way, my head hurts now - thanks a lot.

:D This is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time...not the teens getting pregnant...the guy getting beaned in the head. I got a visual from that!! GOOAAALL!!!  Birth control scores!! Let's see that on instant replay!!  ;D
There are 2 things in this world that hold true.
1) My knee hurts. 2) refer to #1.
