dislocated knee 10 months on
« on: January 10, 2007, 10:11:31 AM »
Hi everyone

I slipped on some ice March 1st 2006 - i twisted and hit my knee on the ground. I dislocated my knee.  In A & E they put it back in and xrayed it then basically left me sitting there for 6 hours as they had an RTA come in.  Later that morning they put my knee in a cricket splint and sent me home with painkillers.  I went back the following day and the consultant took my splint off and put a tubigrip on - sent me home and a week later i started physio.  A few months later I had an MRI scan which showed a tear in the PCL and softening of the cartilage behind the kneecap.

All the way through this my leg muscles have definitely become stronger but I still have awful problems with pain around my knee.  It becomes extremely hot.  I still have trouble going up and down stairs and walking any type of hill.  The circulation in my leg is very poor.  If I am standing for more than 20 minutes my foot goes blue and my knee becomes stiff.  The flexion reduces.  Even if I am sitting on a chair the same happens.  I only seem to be able to reduce this by elevation my leg.  My knee is cracking terribly and it has gone from 3 big cracks and some crackling to 3 big cracks and crunching.

I have been referred to a knee specialist due to the length of time and still presenting problems.  I have told the Docs all the way through that in my 20s I had Chondromalacia Patellae which they didnt feel was relevant but now they think it could be.  Could anybody please give me some insight as to what may be wrong - I need to be more mobile as I have 5 kids and a puppy!!! Driving me mad now!!

Thanks

Hi

The sooner you get to see an Orthopaedic Consultant the better - you must not wait any longer as the situation will only deterioate.

Best wishes
