I'M LIVING A TOTAL NIGHTMARE
« on: January 08, 2007, 07:46:29 PM »
I wrote earlier that my surgery that was scheduled for today was cancelled three days ago as my Spine Surgeon was called out of town on an emergency. I got a call from my OS office today to say that this Dr. was no longer with their practice and asked if I would mind seeing another Spine Specialist that they referred me to.

Tomorrow I see this new guy for the first time and probably the only time before he performs surgery on me. I have to go through everything again, the evaluation, test etc  etc.  Hoprefully tomorrow I'll have a new date for the surgery and it won't be too long but I'm in limbo as I don't know what to expect and scared to death to start over again. It took me a long time to get to this point as you all know what it takes to prepare for surgery.  I just had to vent. Thanks.

I'm sorry this has happened to you.  I know how hard it is to get yourself ready for surgery.  All I can hope is that this will end up being better for you in the end.  Maybe this new Dr. will be better than the last.

I'll be thinking of you.

Grandma,

I am so sorry to hear this. I can understand that you have reservations about the new guy, but why would you have to start all over, the office should have all of your records there and he can just review them. If it makes you feel any better call there now and ask. If it is a different office have the old office fax a copy of everything over immediately, or get a courier to take them over, this is the least they can do for you. Please let us know what is happening.

Peggy

The old office has been great. My Spine Specialist was in the same office with my Orthopedic Dr so they are handling everything.  They have faxed my records and are delivering my MRI and X-rays to them. What I meant by starting over is that everything will have to be rescheduled again and I don't know if they will want to do their own presurgical testing, but you are right peggy, this new doc might even be better. The good news is that he was second in line for the job at my OS doctors and will probably end up there now and so things should get back on track. It is so aggravating as this was my surgery date and I would have been through surgery by now and now I have more anticipation.  I also liked the hospital I would have been going to and was quite familiar with it. It was a small hospital and I got better care then I ever got in a big one. Now my surgery will be in a huge hospital. I'll let you know tomorrow how I make out after my appontment with them. I should have a new surgery date. I'm writing in red cause I'm seeing red.

Hi Luckygrandma,

I'm so sorry - how frustrating and frightening.  However, I too agree with Peggy - this might be a blessing in disguise (I always wanted to use that saying).  As long as you trust your OS to make the referral and you like this person when you meet them everything should work out for you.  And, I would think you should be able to push for an early date since you were already on a calendar (granted not for this doctor) but all the same a calendar you should get priority on a date.

Hope your visit goes well, you like him and feel as though you can trust him (you know you can tell this sometimes in just the initial meeting).  Obviously your OS trusts him and you most likely trust your OS.

Let us know how you fare at the visit.  Will be thinking about you.  Deborah

Is there no way to contact your old doctor ?   Just make sure you are comfortable with your new doctor and do not rush into a situation where you are left with a second best.

my thoughts and prayers are with you.
