« on: January 08, 2007, 12:24:37 AM »
I hit my knee hardly with a fire hydrant last friday,
now, I've some pain, swelling and difficult to walk.

How long should I wait?
Is it serious?

Thanks

Sergio,

Based on your mechanism of injury, it's unlikely that you did any serious damage to the knee.  I would give it a week to see improvement.  Just take it easy, rest, and ice.  If after a week you are still having problems seek medical attention.  If at any time you feel that your knee is getting worse, get it checked out.

By the way, how did you hit your knee on a fire hydrant?
1999 LR, 2002 ACL/PLC recon, reversal of LR, 2004 ACL revision, 2006 Car accident torn PCL and small fractures resulting in bone chips in my knee.  Torn MCL 3 times.  Wicked screws under IT band and Pes Anserine.  June 2008-Hip Arthroscopy.

Thank you ATsoccergirl !!.
I really appreciate your answer.

I didn't see it coming ... =)

In a silly silly way... I was distracted, waiting to cross the street
then I decided to take another way. When I turned I hit the fireplug strongly,
I had forgotten it was there. I couldn't walk for awhile but was later, at home, that
I realized of the swelling, pain and difficult to walk.

I will see how it goes this week
Thanks again
Sergio
