Best Orthopedic doctor who can connect the dots!
« on: November 18, 2006, 02:05:23 PM »
Hi, I am 58 white female with flat feet all my life, arthritis in knees, and hallux rigidus in left foot.  Two years ago I had arthroscopic surgery on the right knee and he found "almost stage 4" arthritis behind the kneecap.  This year I had surgery to repair hallux rigidus, which is now better but not great.  Now, the knee Orthopod tells me my right knee is collapsing, but there is nothing he can do for it.  (I take 200mg Celebrex every day.)

My question is... I am looking for the best Orthopedic in the country who looks at the total skeleton and connects problems of one area with another to provide a total solution to all my bone issues vs.  all the individual specialists.  For example, if my knee is collapsing, will the leg get shorter and cause hip problems?  What can be done to forestall the collapse and when do I throw in the towell and get a new knee?  Would a brace help so that I can continue to use walking as an exercise?

Hope you can help direct me to the type of specialist (or non-specialist) I am looking for.  When I ask the knee guy or the foot guy about any other part, they don't answer!  And, they are both individually top doctors in the fields.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

I'm guessing you are in the U.S. If that's correct, Dr. Ronald Grelsamer in NY may be a good choice.

Here's a link to a tutorial on patellofemoral (kneecap) issues that he wrote for KNEEguru. Scroll down to 'Patella' to find it.
