Congrats to us all as we move forward from our surgeries. Friday was 12 weeks for me. Hard to imagine I've been home from work for almost three months. Where has it gone? Probably in a drug-induced haze. Hey, maybe that's not all bad. I've watched way too much daytime TV too. And now I'm Tivo-ing shows I can't watch in person. As if I needed to watch more TV!

I'm still apprehensive about going back to work. I am definitely going to take it slowly. It's weird, though. Since I've been out, another woman in her early 50s has had a hip replacement and one of my receptionists in her early 50s had a rotater cuff surgery. Neither of them are back to work yet, either, so we've really been shorthanded. I guess they'll be glad to get any of us back for whatever we can work. The rest of them must be really overworked. Anja, I agree with Bonnie...how do you do ten hour days? I know you're at 7 months, but still!! Bonnie, take it easy. Don't let them "suck you in" too fast!

Right now I'm sitting in the recliner while hubby vacuums.  I'm resting up for later, friends are coming over for drinks & nibbles before going out to dinner later. I am a wuss!

Not only did my coworkers take over my job, they gave me a gift certificate for two house cleanings. I told you work at a great place! I used one certificate, and think I'll save the other one for a few more weeks. I think my son is going to move out at the beginning of March, so I'll wait till he goes. He's not messy at all, but his bathroom could use some TLC. I'm not up to TLC for anyone but myself right now! Actually, I will really miss him and his girlfriend (soon to be fiance) when he goes. They work such long hours, I'm sure we won't see them much once they are out of the house.

Only one more day of freedom before I have to put in some hours at work. I keep reminding myself how much I love my job and how much I miss my coworkers. But I've found that I love being at home! All this time to myself during the day is a luxury. Of course it has to be wasted by PT and exercises and pain. Why can't we have paid leaves when we're feeling great? Too bad they have to be wasted on recovery!

Annie:

I did that and it was great. I took my lunch and ate with my usual cohorts. It got some of the hugs out of the way. It also showed me I wasn't ready to work yet. Just the drive and the visit were enough then. You should plan it. It will probably do you good.... and let them see how you're doing and that you're not "work ready" yet.

Janet - I SO remember the difficulty of getting back in the work thing. OUCH! Made me start a ten-year count down to retirement!

Go gently, pace yourself. The stamina builds back up slowly. I cant remember what you do - but your co-workers sound kind and wise!

My # 2 TKR is in 2 weeks, took off 5 weeks this time (4 last time, but returned few days early). Plan was part-time, it just snowballed once I got in there though. Surgery this time on right knee, so I think driving will be delayed longer. Started all the pre-op stuff, nurse has called several times. So grateful to have good team in my corner. Have to do the vena filter thing out-patient day before, sort of scary, but smaller surgery than knee i guess.

Well, everyone take care. Snowed in here, and think that is quite all right!!!!

TKR Left  10.26.06   WOW awesome - I can jazzercise again!
Right rescheduled for 04.12.07

For everything there is a season.... (this year has been my "knee" season)

Kathi: Good luck with knee #2! You've been through it before, so at least you know how to get through it and that it's all worth it in the end.

I did go to work today....for two hours! I had planned to get there about 1:00, which I did. We're getting a snowstorm, and it was supposed to start about 3:00. I said I would stay until the snow started to stick. I didn't want to have to walk to the car or drive if the weather was bad. Well, for once the forecasters were right. The snow started just before 3:00 and I left shortly after. Since it takes me about 25 minutes one way, I was out for about 3 hours. I can't believe I came home and took a nap. What a wimp! I'll go back Friday afternoon and try to hit 3 hours of work.

Bonnie.....come out, come out, wherever you are!
