Need some gee-ing up
« on: May 24, 2003, 03:31:53 AM »
Oh guys

The last few days have been awful, my stomach wound has just been pouring with blood 24/7. I've had the distric nurse come 3 times a day for the last 3 days & I have to go to the GP tomorrow & if it's no better then we have to consider re-admitting me to hospital.

I'm in skip loads of pain, even MST's aren't having the desired effect & my knees are playing click clack merry hell.

I'm down in the dumps guys.

Iona

I read this today and it made me laugh out loud.  Hopefully it will do the same with you, though that might be dangerous with a stomach wound.  Maybe you could just giggle...?

Martha Stewart vs. REAL WOMEN

Martha Stewart:
If you accidentally over salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix me up."
Real Women:
If you over salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too damn bad. Please recite with me the Real Women's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and don't care how bad it tastes."

Martha Stewart:
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
Real Women:
Take a lime, mix it with tequila, etc., chill and drink. You might still
have the headache, but who cares?

Martha Stewart:
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
Real Women:
Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake. You are probably lying on the couch, with your feet up, eating it anyway.

Martha Stewart:
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.
Real Women:
Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix and keep it in the pantry for up to a year.

Martha Stewart:
When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.
Real Women:
Go to the bakery. They'll even decorate it for you.

Martha Stewart:
Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.
Real Women:
The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust, so I just don't do it.

Martha Stewart:
If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.
Real Women:
Go ask the very cute neighbor to do it.

And finally, the most important tip --
Martha Stewart:
Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.
Real Women:
Leftover wine??????

If someone could instruct me on how to post a picture or JPEG file I would put something else that's funny here...but I really don't get how to do it.  I'm usually fairly computer literate, but not in this case.

Iona, I hope you feel better soon.  It sounds like you are getting great care, and with a little pain control you might be a happy camper once again.

Iona, you poor kid, I hope by the time this gets posted you,re feeling better.

Wounds that don't heal up fast are a sign of too much movement in my experience, yes I have on occasion reqired further embroidery to hold all the bits inside.  Take a look at your medication too, some of the stuff that they give us is genuine NOT GOOD for healing wounds.  Load up on iron and vitamins and keep the water coming!

You're in my thoughts and prayers, God Bless you Iona and grant you healing.  Try to slow down a bit, persistent bleeding is a sure sign of over exertion.
I'm a grumpy old bear with a busted knee.  The growling you hear is my tummy rumbling!

I'm so sorry for all of this--the idea of this surgery was to help you feel better and it sure isn't doing that (yet) anyway.  I am concerned about the amount of blood that you must be losing--please  be carefuland wtch out for any of those nasty signs of a problem from that.  (If you feel light headed or worse...like the world getting dark, that is serious.)

So what are the nurses and docs saying?  Are they giving you any encouragement that this is turning or are they discouraged too?  It is hard to fight that "down
Feeling" when the body is totally misbehaving, but try to think kindly of yourself and avoid those negative thoughts if at all  possible.

I wish I could do or say more--you are in my prayers and thoughts...Take care and take it really easy!  Sylvia

Iona,
I'm so sorry things are going bad for you. This sounds serious. I hope that by the time you read this, that the bleeding has stopped and you are on the road to being able to see some positive progress.

I wish you health and happiness soon. I wish I could do more. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Larry
