I Keneed (lol) help
« on: September 10, 2006, 11:51:30 PM »
I know that I do have a knee problem but I don't know what it is ? It arose after I had a pretty severe case of compartment syndrome . Now I can barley walk without my knee hurting . I was wondering if anyone has had a similar case and if they did what do I do about it >?

maybe you should see a doctor.  Maybe you have OA.   Your knee wont hurt.. out of the blue.

Hi Tony

Where did the compartment syndrome affect you , was it the result of an injury?
If you give as much information as possible you'll get more help, such as where is the pain, when do you get it, how often. Any injuries you may have suffered could be a factor as well.
18/06/05 Injured trampolining
Fixed Flexion 20-90 deg until...
01/09/05 lateral meniscectomy (40%)
09/06/06 Patella tendon aclr
09/09/06 Back on the tramp (carefully)
10 years on and still going strong
!!Stop twisting when you land or it hurts!!

Hi Tony,
In answer to your question, OA is shorthand for osteo-arthritis, and if you're only 14, I seriously doubt that you have to worry about that.
However, you should definitely consult a doctor about the pain. I don't know what compartment syndrome is, but I do know that a lot of boys your age develop Osgood-Schlatter's disease (which is basically a fancy name for growing pains). Have you had a sudden growth spurt lately? It happens because the bones in your legs start elongating faster than the tendons and ligaments can keep up with, and it puts enormous stress on the knee joint. It has to be managed carefully. If you ignore it, it can become a chronic lifelong problem.
Don't mean to scare you, though. Most kids outgrow it as soon as they stop growing so fast. My son had it and he's fine now at age 19. Usually the doc tells you to avoid certain activities that put stress on the knees, such as jumping and squatting, and he may give you exercises to do at home.
At any rate, do go see someone about it. Everyone here will tell you, the sooner you seek treatment for a knee problem, the less severe it's likely to be and the faster you'll recover and be able to get on with your life. Good luck.

For many years  I was told. Oh its just growing pains and it turned out to be OA.   My point is.  Go see the doctor.

Ok well the pain is all over and at random time the pain will be SOO bad that it can make me cry but sometimes it is just a dull pain . But I always have some pain ! My compartment syndrome is near the middle of my left shin . I did it when I was kicked playing soccer . Not long after that my Pain began to get unbearable like it is now . And if it were growing pains wouldn't both knees be bothering me ?

Try resting it, elevating it, iciing it, and what goo said.  Go to a doctor... Make an apt with your family doctor and start there.  Knee issues are all over the board and like fingerprints, no two are ever alike..
