To all those people who have TTT surgery!!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 10, 2006, 05:15:27 PM »
Hey! Out of all of you who have had to experience the TTT knee surgery I was curious how many of you had to have the surgery because of an injury OR because of more mechanical issues such as the way the bones are set up in your knee and leg.

>One of my friends has always had bad knees....she says that her knee problems are hereditary because of the way her bone structure is....She says that a TTT knee surgery should not have to be done because of an injury to your knee....it should only be done because your knee has something genetically wrong with it.

I dont know if any of you understand what I am trying to say....but I was just wondering what some of you think about this? What was the reason that you ended up having the surgery?

I am new to this site and any feedback or help you could give me would be AWESOME!!!!

Hey there,

I had the TTTs on both of my knees.  The reason that I had them done was due to the genetic malalignment of where my patellar tendon was attatching to my tibia.  I had constant subluxations and dislocations of my kneecaps due to this malalignment.  Thankfully, those are fixed now and haven't had a subluxation in awhile!!  Now if only I could find something to help with my now medial joint line narrowing and osteoarthritis!!!

hey
i as well as many also had a TTT for where my patella tendon was positioned. This was causing a tracking disorder that lead to dislocations and subluxations. for me its not from a specific injury, because my other knee is the same way. but when you dislocate your knees, the injury definatly makes them worse.

Hi,

I never had any problems with my knees until I was 14. I injured my knee during sports and sislocated it. Even with aggressive physio it was that same knee which would dislocate of it's own free will. I managed to build up the muscles but went overboard with the muscle building and so it was the stronger of the muscles which held my patella in the wrong position - too far to the lateral side of my knee joint; thus the reason for more dislocations and ultimately the TTT surgery.

Take care,

Hi, I had my TTT because I had severe OA and the one side of my knee still had cartlidge left, so  they did the TTT to make the knee ride differently, so I'd say that they can do TTTs for lots of different reasons.

I had the TTT to correct the malalignment of my leg by repositioning the patella tendon to try and stop the subluxations and dislocations.  It originally worked on both knees but an injury caused one of my kneecaps to dislocate and subsequently continue.  I just had an MPFL reconstruction to try and stop the dislocations/subluxations that reappeared after the injury.

Hello. I had a TTT on my L knee because of recurrent dislocating and subluxing. My knee problems were triggered by an injury, but both of my knees are malaligned (only the L has caused me troubles as of yet).

True that the TTT is mainly used for malalignment and Arthritis;  I myself have had TTT on both knees because I was born Knock Kneed (knee caps ride too far inward and they liked to jump out of their position) but never really knew it until 5 years ago while I was running and my knees broke down and a OS took a look at my knees.  I have had 4 knee surgeries to straighten both.  Most people that have some sort of malalignment are put thru a progressive stage of care before the TTT is performed;  Physical Therapy first then they usually get arthrosopic surgery, then lateral release then the TTT or some form of that like Fulkersons, etc.
As well people do have surgeries on their knees for injuries like broken patellas or ligament damage (ACL, MCL, LCL etc) from sports but malalignment is not normaly caused from an accident.

I have malalignment of my patellas.  My right knee TTT was 11 weeks ago and my left TTT is in 2 weeks.  Because of the malalignment I have had many dislocations and subluxations to both of my knees.
