LoL?
« on: May 11, 2003, 11:20:03 AM »
OK - I've tried to work it out and I'm sure my next comment is going to be extremely amusing and brighten up a few peoples days with mirth!  ;D ;D ;D

Oh well here goes ........

What is LoL and what does it mean? It appears in lots of peoples posts and isn't a smiley. I'm probably being extremely, extremely stupid (which is why I haven't asked before!) so someone please put me out of my misery!

Cheers Ergo  ;)

Ergo don't worry, when I first started using emails/computer communicatons more seriously I had the exact same situation.  ::)

LoL actully stands for Laugh Out Loud and is part of a whole new mini language that has evovled form wanting to cut down the time it takes to type things for messenger converstaions etc.

There are several other expamples such a ROFL - which is Rolling On the Floor Laughing and more obvious ones such s RUOK for Are You Okay.

Hope this helps - maybe we could start a dictionary of computer communicatios language?!  ;)

Love and hugs....Jo

You aren't the only one that didn't know what that means. I also had no idea. I'm pretty computor illiterate. My computer experience comes primarily from coming to this site. I've never gone to chat rooms because it takes me too long to type. If you don't work on a computer you don't learn these things. Working as an electrician, sitting down to a keyboard just isn't part of the job description. Just wanted you to know that there is at least 2 of us novices learning by the day here. Larry

LOL!! When I first started talking to my Great Uncle on AIM he didnt know what any of these terms were... I ended up confusing him more than a few times by saying BRB and walking away... I would come back and have like 10 messages from him asking why I wasnt talking...

Some more for you...

BRB- Be Right Back
TTYL- Talk to you Later
TTFN- Ta Ta for Now
LOL can also be lots of laughs... or in the case of relitaves or something Lost of Love :-/.

Ill try to think of somemore later!

Just to stick my two cents in, I am no spring chicken and I have one of my old computers sitting in my closet and every once in a while I get a kick out of looking at how far computer technology has come.  All these little tidbits came about because originally, we didn't have pictures :o, couldn't insert smileys or anything. Just text.  Even for computer games, just text!.  Truly was the dark ages ;).
