*17 yrs old and i need HELP!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:09:05 PM »
I've had 2 surgeries on my right knee and im only 17.  I had one to remove scar tissue and remove the Plica in my knee.  And the second one was a lateral release.  Its been a whole year since my last surgery which was the lateral release and my knee is STILL not better.  It always pops out of place whenever I am just walking.  Also every step I take my knee frequently pops and catches.  Its annoying and PAINFUl.  I cheerlead and play soccer for my highschool but i am not able to do that because of my knee.  Is there any advice you can give me to help me out.....should i go see a different OS???? Are there any other surgeries that can help???? PLEASEEEEEE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would get another opinion. It doesn't sound like your OS knows what's going on or what to do. Are you in physical therapy? If so, maybe your therapist could help.

I'm 17 too and had similar problems as you with my kneecaps dislocating. I had a TTT/Lateral Release on both knees (separately) last year. Now, my kneecaps don't dislocate anymore. They are completely stable, and I have one pain free knee. The other one is another story, but the TTT was successful.

Depending on what your problem is...why your kneecaps dislocate...a TTT may be an option for you. However, not all OSes perform TTTs, so you need to find a knee specialist. If you post your general location, someone on here might be able to recommend someone. Also, there is a page on this site that lists good OSes: http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/html/names/names_menu.html

Look around on this sight as well. There is a lot of great information on different problems and procedure, as well as insight into individual recoveries.

hi...im 15 years old and have a lot of the same problems as you, except with both my knees. like erin, mine dislocate as well as regular subluxations. i would definatly reccomend getting a second opinion as well. I just had my first TTT a week ago. as well as a lateral release and medial reefing. so there are other options

kels

Hi. I would agree with the others, that it is time to get a second opinion. I also had a LR, and while things were good for a few months, my knee went downhill fast after i had my first dislocation. I am currently just over 5 weeks post-op from a TTT/LR, and while it is to soon to say if it was entirely successful or not, i could not imagine continuing on with things the way they were. I knew that i had to do something. Best of luck with your knee!!

If he only keep saying wait six weeks and we see from there, then you should move on and make a second opinion. Maybe the LR didn't work for you and you need another surgery.
Best of luck to you and don't give up..there are lots of docs out there and lots of treatment too.
