Post op pains
« on: August 30, 2006, 02:24:42 AM »
I had surgery back in early June for a tore medial meniscus. Out of work for 2.5 months, no rehab.  I'm still having some swelling and ALOT of soreness at my meniscus, but espically in the back of my knee extending down to the upper portion of my calve muscle.  Any  ideas or sugesstions?  Does this sound normal?

Hi,

I don't know about your specific injury as I have different problems to you but how come you've had NO rehab? Not even a little bit?
I think in the first instance you should try to get rid of the swelling. Make sure you practice RICE and take anti-inflammatories, but only if you can tolerate them. Then maybe your pain will decrease a litle on its own and you'll have a greater ROM to start rehab with.

Take care,

I had repair, Dr. did not perscribe any kind of rehab. Just said to do what I felt like I could do in my normal daily routines.  I started out light walking worked up to a mile a day, tried jogging worked up to about 1/2 mile, with pain, which would subside while I was joggin, but afterwards came on like a frieght train. I think I was better off before my surgery, at least then I knew what the problem was.....
