Just came back from seeing the orthopaedic.
« on: August 16, 2006, 10:29:25 AM »
He mentioned i may have damaged or teared the mlc, cartalidge and my acl.

He couldn't do a full test on my knee cos it hurting the hell out of me and he was kinda quick with it all. He explained that i had to come back in 3 weeks to let my swelling and pain to decrease and he said that he wanted me to wear this robocop type knee brace at an 90 degree angle or something. He mentioned no mri but the orthoscope and acl recon so maybe he's gonna miss out the mri and go for clear evidence of an orthoscope. BTW,do i take this knee brace off at night and when i need to ice it as this wasn't explained.

Whats this cartalidge thing,is it the mensicus?

Does the mlc heal on its own?

Many thanks

What the doctor is inferring is that you've experienced the Terrible Triad injury but MRI could do more to verify that. I'd prefer to go with an MRI rather than the more invasive scope to determine the extent of injuries. Cartilage is meniscus & MCL will tighten on its own but people have expressed the feeling that it's never again as tight as it was pre-injury. Do lots of reading so at your next OS visit you're in the know about what's going on with your knee. Wishing you well...Ellie

You would be wise to call the OS's secretary and explain your concerns, his secretary should be able to get the answers you need from your OS.

Good Luck,

Heather ;)

As Heather K said...call your doctor & ask. I didn't see my OS until about 3 weeks post injury & did lots of icing but I did walk the whole time w/o benefit of brace, crutches or cane. Just did what I could & wasn't foolish about attempting something I knew I couldn't handle. My knee was very unstable initially so I had to be careful that I didn't land up in a heap on the ground. I don't think I've suffered any from being active right away...Ellie

They will look at everything to determine what the exact problem is and also see if there are any other probs going on. definately call your OS. you don't want to be doing anything that may make your injuries worse.

Best of luck, Lucy
