proximal tib/fib racture that won't get better
« on: August 12, 2006, 03:06:58 AM »
I broke my tib/fib Dec.23/2005.  The surgeon did a intermedullary nailing, screwed up/  Six months later I had to go to a reconstructive trauma surgeon.  He removed hardware, put in plates and screws, performed osteotomy,  It is now August 11.  I went to the Dr. today to check on a slight infection I had at the incision site. It looks better, but found out from my x-ray that now I have a break in the bottom of my fibula too.  I have been on no weight bearing, so what could have caused this.  I am going stir crazy, and fear more surgery.  Please give advice on what this could be.  Are my bones dying?

Hi There

Sorry you are having a difficult time with your tib-fib fractures. I had tib -fib fractures , 4 of them, and had IM rod and plating then had incompetent doc set it 40 degrees externally rotated, had to see a specialist to have derotational osteotomy to rebreak the tib fib and plate it up. Unless your fracture involved a tib plateau fracture or around the knee, not many here can help with a tib fib fracture. There is a wonderful website called You'll find lots of info on broken legs and a wonderful forum community that can maybe answer your questions.    ;D
