Right back where I started! Nuts!
« on: August 02, 2006, 09:51:55 AM »
Hi!!

I had a LR 2 years ago to correct a patella tilt. My OS put me in for PT for 6 months to try and correct the malaligment problem. I can honestly say neither the surgery or PT have helped me. I worked really hard with the PT, the guy was wonderful and tried his best, but he found further problems with my hip and ankle. He was alittle alarmed at the way my ankle turns in and questioned why the OS hadn't noticed. I shugged my shoulders and said it had always been that way. The PT said the only way to fix my problem was corrective surgery on my knee and wrote a letter to the OS to explain the further problems with my hip and ankle.

Anyway, while all this was going on, my OS retired and I was placed with another one. I live in England and I'm in the NHS system! Yeah!! Anyway, I met with my new guy and he totally dismissed everything I had done, he explained that becaused I had an MRI scan privately on my dad's health insurance everything was basically voided. I questioned that and he said something about the scan belonging to me and he legally couldn't look at them?!

To cut a long story short, he has put me in for arthroscopic surgery next week to explore the joint and diagnose the problem and proceed if possible. So I'm right back where I was 2 years ago!! I'm feel gutted and have lost so much faith in the system and I've waited so long. I know my knee is worse and the joint is unstable, I can feel my patella popping in and out, this used to be fairly painless, but not so now. Why is that?

Anyway, just wanted to get it off my chest and have alittle rant!! This web site is a god send!! Hope your knees are behaving themselves today!

Ally, maybe a diagnostic scope can show what's not working in your knee...I though understand that you feel this as a setback. Have any x-rays or Mri been taken to see how your knee track ?
Maybe that would go before a scope.
Talk with your doc and see what he has to say.

Hi Nettan!

Thanks for your post. I had x-rays done about 6 months ago in various positions, I was too short for one and had to stand on a chair! The OS said the result pointed towards a tracking problem. I'm due for the scope Tuesday morning, but have a horrid feeling it won't solve anything. The OS has already said corrective surgery may make the condition worse and wouldn't ease the pain. Not sure what to make of it all!

Is this OS good at this issues ?
Maybe a second opinion if possible shouldn't hurt.
If he founds something during this diagnostic scope is he going to do corrective surgery without talking with you during the scope or will there be surgery later on ?

I'm told he is a knee specialist, but our health service offers you little choice. My old OS was excellent, he retired from the NHS and offers a private service, a very expensive private service! Last time I saw him he said I needed a TTT. That was over a year ago. I have waited a very long time to get not very far!!

They have told me they will proceed during the scope, but only with a minor procedure. They are only treating it as a day case and said depending on what they find, they will plan further surgery. Happy Days!!!
