Oh, that sounds like it might be what we call a "resident"....already a doctor but learning under a doctor for their speciality.

Anja, I hope your appointment goes well on the 11th. Actually, from what you tell us, I can't imagine your OS would be anything but pleased!

Have just got back from A & E - my son was playing rugby this morning and sprained his MCL oh grrrrr he has only just gone back this season after missing twp seasons from when he ruptured his ACL. So he is out again - things going faster this time - he is seeing the hospital sports physio on Tuesday! - usually have to wait weeks.

Hey Anja:  when I see the OS, the nurse is with him, but you do actually see the OS.  I guess I am lucky as I sit all day at my job.  the pain is incredible.  It has been raining and that makes it worse.  I hae a brace that goes from my thigh to ankle, and it makes it so i cannot bend the knee at all.  Don't know how long i am going to last as it is uncomfortable.  I can't believe how much we have to go through after tkr, i must have been living in a dream world, where i thought that the tkr would be painless afterwards.  I had my surgery a few weeks before you and it seems like we are both going through the same thing.  Can't wait to hear from you after your appt. on Thursday.

Hi Ellenmarie
good to hear from you - sorry that you are having problems!

Think my probs are only because of overuse - my job is 10 hrs a day on my feet - so not the best but pays the bills - prob nothing more serious than overwork! I go on Thurs to see the OS but will prob only get to see the registrar and to be perfectly honest they really just ask how its going and you say okay and say whats going on and they just say rest it and give it time!

take care and keep in touch

One thing I can say is when going through the process of .. Shoud I do it?  I always said.  There is a strong chance that the pain levels and stiffness could be worse after the TKR.  Was I at a point where I knew I could handle constant pain if things went down the tubes.

The medial pain of bone rubbing on bone is not there and its just pain..  kinda like the same pain i had for years when it was raining.  So nothing I cant handle.. Just realizing that you exchange things  the first year or so when the knee settles in.

Does that make sense.. ?    pain meds kicking in

had to post anything here as my thread was on post 666 - too creepy.

6 months post op today!

OS checkup tomorrow afternoon - so should be able to find out for sure what this shin pain is - saw my friend today who is a sports physio thinks it may be a shortening of my quadricep muscle - the pain is right where it joins the shin bone and she said that where it is short it is pulling on the bone - she had me walking up and down the shop today to inspect my walk and says I am limping - hmm maybe I just thought I wasn't - well not much compared to my old limp! - so have to work on stretching this muscle out more !

will post tomorrow when I get in from work.

Annie,
Time flies when your having fun.  ;D

After reading that you have 127 degrees of flexion, without much pain, I think your doing better than me  :o  Look at yourself at just under one month.
We are all doing great each in our own way...

Hello girlies

Happy 1 month Annie, Happy 3 months Bonnie and Happy 6 months to Anj,  ;D ;D ;D

I'm keeping my fingers and all manner of unmentionables crossed for your OS apt Anj.  :o :) ;)

It's horrible here today! Raining and 46mph winds! Sounds like the roof is going to blow off! I'm sat in my office with the rain batting down on the window! It's 9.29am and dark! Can't wait for the spring to come, screws hurt!

Need to winge, sorry.......
I am trying to come to terms with the fact that I have a disability and I'm not coping that well. I thought by now I would be back to 'normal'. Tigger and I were painting the bedroom last night (have finished and it looks great) I was sat on the floor behind the bed cutting in and needed to get up. I got stuck! I didn't have enough room to get in in the strange manner that I have become accustomed to! So I sat and cried! Tigger had to grab me under my arms and lift me up and I'm not a small girl (6 feet tall and a size 16) We've bought a multi gym which is arriving tomorrow at the store and ahve cleared out the garage to put it in, so I'm hoping working on the muscles will help with strength. The problem now is my foot on my 'good' leg. It's so painful now that I don't now which leg to limp on! Have an appointent with my gp on Monday and will ask for a referral for x-rays etc, mind you with the good old NHS that will take a few months!  :'(

Now I've depressed everyone!

What's brown and sticky?

Hi all.

Anja  - Please let us know how the OS appointment goes

Hoppy - I have not the courage yet to sit on the ground.  But I imagine my trying would be like some kinda of site.  Think of someone trying to drown on dry land.

Bonnie send up some warm air.   Burrrr its colder than cold up here.

hmmmm Brown and sticky - a hot cross bun with extra sugary stuff and a nice cup of dunkin donuts hazelnut coffee.

nah it's definately a stick!! - you ask the Vicar of Dibley!! nice one hoppy - you've been watching too much TV LOL

Hey Hop - really sorry you are having a crap time - big hugs for you hun! - reckon this cold windy wet weather is the cause of a lot of pains these days - whats up with that foot - what sort of pain is it, you say you want an xray - have you broken a bone or something - ya know if you go to casualty then you could get an xray then and there! - Our hospital is good - you go to the GP and get a form for an x ray then take it to the hospital between certain times and get the zray and the doc gets the report back in 10 days - so pretty quick for NHS.

Hop you have cheered up by now - don't like you being sad! :'( Think also you are overdoing things - you have done so much since you moved - you take it easy young lady!! Have a break.

The bitch from hell at work got  her fortune read today ;D ;D ;D she was nice as pie after - watch this space - and I'll watch my back!!

Okay heres what ;D you've been waiting for..............

went to the hospital for my appointment was 30 minutes early and went straight in to see the registrar grr where is my OS, anyhow the man did his tests, said it was all spot on then told me to wait there in this sexy dressing gown and then my OS came in!- he then did the tests again - VERY Happy with his work and said how good it had turned out - hmm knew that anyway.

The bit that hurts on my shin IS a Screw that he put in to make it all stronger - it is a dissolvable one and he said it could take a long time to be gone and the pain is inflamation from it but not to worry - all part of the healing. The quad is a bit short - happy for me to carry on with exercises that my physio friend has for me (he knows her - her hubbie is the head finance man at the hospital!)

Then came the lecture
no rugby, football or running.
Gym okay
NO heavy lifting (have to modify my work a bit there)
no getting fat LOL - he did say I was fine as I am ;D

The registrar wanted me to go back for an annual bone scan and xrays to keep a check on things - the pair of them are obsessed about me being too young to have had it done. - The OS said to the OS that he was not going to do these annual checks and to let me go and enjoy my new knee life as I had had the last 25 years of ops and hospitals - I am quite happy with that - he said it was on the understanding that the slightest worry/pain/doubt that I went back to him - fair play.

So I said see ya in 20 years then and he said it would more likely be 10 :o - due to being so active so................utmost respect for my knee!
Came out of there grinning like a cheshire cat ;D

DISCHARGED ;D ;D ;D
