Seems like we all stay calm in recovery until week two.  Then there's some craziness that pushes all to try to do too much.  Maybe hubbie's lucky that he's far away so you can't beg him to let you go places with his help ;)  Good job to get along with kids' dad.
Hyperextended knee at the dog park '03.  Two cortisone shots
GP diagnosed arthritis
'06 referral to OS, more xrays and MRI (meniscus tear possible)
June 22 scope, shave meniscus tear and bone spur and open LR.

Hi Anja,

Been checking on your progress. Glad to see you have your adoring fan club waiting on you hand and foot.
It is like 100 F in Jersey.  I am impressed that you are getting out and doing a little shopping and excercises.  I wonder if having a knee replacement in winter is any worse?  cold all the time and all that.   So what does your leg feel like? Do you think it feels like it belongs to you or some cinder block?  I kinda know how you feel.with staying in bed.  You feel like I should be getting around more doing more stuff.  When will it end.  Can you put a kyro cuff on the knee?  Did they do anything special to your knee cap?

Its cool that your ex hubby came around at least you can say he showed up and gave you a reason to laugh.  Lots of downtime and I bet you are running low on entertainment.  I read you are creating your own by breaking toilets.

I have black thigh high TEDS.  I noticed you had ones that have the toes open. Wonder why the toes need to be exposed.

So would you do it again if you had too?  Reading your post op is great all sorts of things I never really read on other posts.

I think when I get my new knee I will stay in a skilled nursing facility for an extra week.  I think my parents and siblings would toss me into the hudson river if I got moanie at home.

Hi there
don't know if the weather would affect it - except that I prob wouldn't be so keen to walk as I hate the cold!
I think that I have age on my side and did lots of physio before the op and of course worked full time - 6 x 10 hr days a week so I was pretty strong - just had a totally crap knee - just lived on pain meds.

It is strange - had not really thought about it not being 'my knee' even though I have seen the x rays - it is a bit 'clicky' every now and then - but don't usually notice it  - the strangest thing is though that although it is very tight and swollen it is just a much larger version of my left knee. The old knee had a large lump of osteoarthritic bone growth sticking out on the outside - it had been there for about 10 years - so it looks different - like a real knee not deformed - which I like! Yes It is definately MY KNEE ! - I was concerned before the op that it would feel like a foreign body - I don't know - maybe that changes it is early days.

I enjoy going for walks - despite these stupid ted socks - just have to wear shorts in this weather. - thing is that before the op it was so painful to walk to the shops that I would take the car - there is no OA pain - just post op pain - which can get preety bad but walking does ease it.

I do have gel packs for the freezer which I use to ice the leg - I am actually bidding on a cryo cuff on ebay at the moment as it would be so good to have.My hubbie said he would get me one anyway if I want.

The toes on the ted socks can be worn either over the toes or open - I guess it is easy access to check temo/colour of toes - I wear them open as it is soooo hot!

I couldn't possibly answer wheter I would do it again yet - the main reason being that at the moment I am more incapacitated than before - and actually in more pain - all being well in about six weeks I will be able to thoroughly reccommend it ;D It is only day 8  - got physio on Fri so that might loosen it up a bit more.

The knee cap just had a bit cut from the back so it is still mine!

Not relly bored yet - still very tired, a bit frustrated maybe at not being allowed to do stuff (hubbies rules)

As for the toilet - I am actually pretty upset about that - my daughter is away at the moment and when I told her about it she told me that the saet was broken a couple of weeks ago when she went to the doctors - which makes it even worse - no wonder the receptionist didn't seem too suprised (but very sympathetic)

I try not to moan, but have ended up in tears due to pain on a few too many occasions.

Hey Anja,

So pleased you're out out usrgery and on the "other side" so to speak. you're lucky you have people helping you. Make the most of it cos it can''t last forever.
Hope you get the cryo cuff. I can't use ice, even in this weather but I can imagine how cooling and refreshign it would feel on a swollen knee.
I know how you feel re hubby not letting you do anything. Mine drove me nuts with all his little rules and regulations during my rehab. The more surgeries I had the worse he got. But I know he did it for the best reasons.
Don't worry about the toilet seat - you'l llaugh about it soon enough.

Take care,

Hi laura

I really feel for you (and Nettan) not being able to ice - it is very cooling - sometimes I can't use it as it burns and ittitates - don't know why - The ice packs are the gel ones - so they dont even freeze solid - should find out about the cryo cuff on thursday.

Actually had good night sleep - my word it was hot - I am so sleepy still when I get up though - my doctor gave me Diazepam- it has def helped with the jolts only one big one last night and just a few little jerks!

Hubbie went to work at 5 am - gave me my meds and I went back to sleep until 8 when my neighbours started the usual tirade of obsenities, kids crying and screaming - gone quiet now - school run  time - won't be long before they are at it again. - Think I am going to have to ring the council about this - my friends were here yesterday - they couldn't believe it - trouble is that when I go back to work there will be no one here during the day - which makes me fear for my property.

anyway you have  a good day - think I have just one friend coming this afternoon which will be nice.

Hi Anj

Sorry I missed your posts - it's not been my week, first I get the RSD news, then migraine and in the early hours of yesterday morning I end up in A&E majors with asthma!

I can't believe that they would leave a broken loo seat like that, particularly in a doctor's office!  OMG.  That must've hurt so bad.  It would also have been nice for them to check up on you.  I just hope that something is going to be done about it so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

So glad that your knee, despite being swollen, is looking like a proper knee!  Despite the post-op soreness, my knee felt great to walk on, no OA pain and much more solid and stable - don't know whether you've noticed that too?  I found it was the kneecap that seemed the worst, I couldn't do some of the exercises as it felt like it was catching.

Don't worry about the tears, for one thing, you've had a major op and that is one of the side-effects.  Things haven't exactly gone smoothly for you either, what with your op being postponed, then being kicked out of the hospital like that, then this business with the loo seat.

I'd better get on with some work, I'll check in later.

Hi ellie
OMG - you okay now? - I thought it was strange that I hadn't heard from you - but not only was this site messing about - my brother in law messed up my email - had to get him back to fix it - and thats what he does as his job!

Was it the heat that set off your asthma? I used to live with a bad asthmatic and lost count of the times she ended up in hospital.

You are right about the knee cap being the worst bit - going to physio friday so hopefully they can help with that, the knee def feels more stable - and night time is getting better. I have a burning sensation in my thigh and the lower part of my leg and seem to have permanent pins and needles in my toes - I assume this is all part of the usual healing.

think have sussed the tearfulness - came 'on' this morning - wasn't expecting that till next week! - so that prob contributes to it - but I can't take my blood clotters this month - hubbie said he would get me some Pampers!! ;D bless him!

Really hope you are feeling better now - for gods sake take it easy!
What have they said about your RSD - I am sure you said about this - I don't seem to have much memory retention this week - but I will put that down to the drugs - not my age!
take care

I think all three of us are in the wars at the moment, we all deserve a night in on the wine together,ah but,
Anj can't - pain meds and anti biotics for poorly leg!
Ellie can't - pain meds for head and leg.
and I can't because of darn sinisitis and chest infection!

Do you think out of the three of us 'they' could make one good one!!!!  ;)

Hi Anj and Hop

I think we need raffling off, but I don't think anyone would buy a ticket!

I'm feeling much better today but for the next 5 days I have to take 8 tablets (which taste disgusting) all in one go - YUK!  I'm not enjoying this hot weather, but the temperature is supposed to drop a few degrees tomorrow - yippee.  I'm worried about my poor hubby having to travel on the Tube today.  His boss sent him a text yesterday to say it was 45 degrees down there - yikes!  That's what you get for working in London.

Hop, I bet you're suffering having sinisitis and a chest infection in this awful heat - poor you, how do you breathe?  Hug!

The drugs party sounds good, does paracetamol count, probably not?  I think we could whine for England - just think we could put together a team and for once England would be the best in the world at something!

I'm kind of ignoring the RSD diagnosis for the time being until I've seen a pain specialist (I'm probably in denial but, hey that's me).

Anj, I'm not sure about this burning sensation you have in your thigh and lower leg and also the pins and needles in your foot.  Did you mention this to your GP?  To be honest, my brain has totally blocked out the memory of my post-TKR pain, I know it did hurt, but I can't remember much more about it.  Just keep an eye on things and mention it to your physio on Friday.

Take care guys, and Anj - don't let me hear that you've been overdoing your exercises!

Hey Ellie - I have got enough drugs for all of us! ;D and one of the girls at work could supply some recreational stuff! - she is always on a high!

Are your pills for the asthma? - that seems an awful lot.

Fell for your hubbie - mine has been to portsmouth this morning - he bought 3 litres of water for the trip and left at 5 am - hope he will be back by 4 pm - he's only got 2 more days then hols!!! yippee.

Just had my boss round for lunch! - he rang to say he would bring lunch and turned up with cucumber sandwiches - my favourite, smoothies and flapjack! - it was lovely. He has gone now - didn't want a riot at work - they can't cope!?! but they are really missing me! Boss is having a weeks holiday the week after next - told me to turn my mobile off!

Didn't actually mention anything to the doc about my toes and burning sensation - I was in too much of a state after my toilet trouble - hubbie did the talking.

OMG it hot - do you have A/C at work ? I know Hop has - just as well with her sinusitis and chest - mind you - you must be quite a wreck with your asthma.
Def. team Hug!

take care you two - I've got daytime tv - aaaargh ::)

Hi Anj

No air con in this office.  I am fortunate in that my office is the coolest in the building, ground floor and sheltered by trees, but it is still hot even in here today.  I tried to find a shady spot to part my car this morning, got it totally wrong as my car looks like it's cooking!

Yep, these yukkie-tasting meds are steroids for the asthma.  They're working a treat as I had a really good night's sleep last night and am feeling pretty good today.  They only come in 1mg and 5mg tablets and I have to take 40mg!  Der!

I hope your boss didn't talk too much shop.  But it was nice of him to drop in with lunch.  Yummy flapjack!  Have you tried those Sainsbury's mini flapjacks - are they are soooo nice!

If you have freeview, on More 4 they show repeats of St Elsewhere and ER - that's about the best that's on daytime TV.

I do feel for Hop with this chest infection, at least with the asthma I can take inhalers for relief.  I'm glad she has air con at work.

It's toooo hot, need someone here to go out on an icecream run!  Think I'll go talk to one of the techie guys in the lab.
